They Voted Me Out Of The Wedding So I Canceled It Chapter 15
Staring at the receipt, Evan finally saw the last eight years clearly.
I had paid for our home, cleaned up Ava’s messes, and even sold my grandmother’s necklace to save his company. And what had he done? He had treated everything I gave as if it were his due.
That night, he called Ava, his sister, and a few other relatives over to his apartment.
“Who brought up the wedding vote first?” he asked.
After a moment of silence, Ava spoke up.
“You did. You said Claire was being too controlling and needed to step back to make room for Mom.”
Evan went rigid.
Ava looked at him and added, “And every time you didn’t want to go to one of Mom’s family events, you’d say Claire was uncomfortable. Of course everyone thought she was the one who didn’t fit in.”
The memories rushed back, sharp and damning.
When he didn’t want to attend dinners, he’d said I was tired.
When he didn’t want to lend money, he’d said I wouldn’t agree.
When he wanted to avoid Rachel, he’d blamed my feelings.
Time and time again, he had used me as a shield, personally turning me into the killjoy, the controlling wife, the woman who pushed everyone away.
Those nine yes votes—every single one of them had his name on them.
His voice was rough when he finally spoke. “So you all felt perfectly entitled to let her plan, and pay, and handle everything, but you thought she didn’t deserve to be in a photograph?”
No one answered.
He opened the old wedding group chat and changed the group name to:
*Apologize to Claire.*
“Every one of you is going to apologize,” he typed. “Not so she’ll forgive us. But because we owe her.”
A second later, Rachel left the group.
Ava left right after her.
