He Chose Another Heir Now He Wants Me Back Chapter 13

“The way Luca looks at you,” Dante said suddenly, “it’s not the look of a man who’s let go.”

The elevator stopped on the nineteenth floor.

I stepped out first, not answering.

My mother was awake.

She was propped up against the headboard, the oxygen mask removed. Her complexion was still ashen, but her eyes were clearer.

When she saw me, she held out her hand.

“Elena…”

I rushed to her side and took it.

Six years.

Her hand was so thin it felt like little more than bone, almost weightless in my palm.

“Mom.” I sat on the edge of the bed and pressed my face into her hand. “I’m back.”

Maria didn’t cry. She just stroked my hair with her other hand, the way she had when I was a child.

“That’s all that matters.”
