He Chose Another Heir Now He Wants Me Back Chapter 28
Luca’s pupils contracted violently.
Ophelia let go of him and took a step back, tears welling up again.
Then she turned to me, the hatred in her eyes no longer hidden.
“Elena, you won. You don’t have to do a thing. You just stand there, and he can’t see anyone else.”
She pointed a trembling finger at my chest.
“But how are you any better than me? You ran for six years. You were afraid of this city, afraid of seeing anyone from the De Luca family. You didn’t even dare answer Maria’s calls. So what if you won?”
“Are you finished?”
Her chest heaved.
I walked toward her until only a single step separated us.
“You don’t hate me because I took something from you. You hate me because you’ve spent your whole life living in my shadow. Grandfather praised my grades, so you stayed up all night to score higher. Luca was good to me, so you had to have him look at you, too.”
My eyes dropped to the signet ring on her hand.
“It was the same when you married him. You didn’t want Luca. You wanted proof that my place could be taken.”
