He Sold Me Into Slavery I Returned As Queen Chapter 13
The edges of the paper were blackened. Only a few lines remained.
*Rosalie, what I said when I was drunk was not what I truly meant. The matter with Ella was so many years ago—pretend you never heard it. Once I pass the final trial, I’ll propose a mating to the Raine family. What I did back then was only because I couldn’t bear to see you looked down on…*
The hall was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
Alaric slowly turned his head toward Rosalie.
“You knew?”
Tears spilled down Rosalie’s face at once.
“Father, I didn’t know! I only heard him say it when he was drunk. I couldn’t believe it was true.”
The investigator said, “Rosalie’s maid has already testified. Three years ago, Cedric spoke of the matter while intoxicated.”
“He said that as long as Ella didn’t disappear, the Raine family would never truly see Rosalie.”
“The next day, he wrote this letter, demanding that she forget what she had heard.”
“After reading it, she ordered her maid to burn it.”
“This surviving scrap was left behind when the maid cleaned out the hearth.”
Rosalie collapsed to the floor.
“I never harmed Ella.”
“I truly didn’t.”
I walked over to her.
“You did not personally sell me.”
“But after learning the truth, you still chose to conceal it.”
Rosalie shook her head through her tears.
“I was afraid.”
“I was afraid that if you came back, Father would only have eyes for you again.”
“I was afraid that if Cedric was ruined, I would lose everything, too.”
