His Lesson Killed My Mother Now He Will Pay Chapter 25
When I opened the storm box again, I noticed a small fragment of wood on the side of the music box hadn’t been fully glued back into place.
At the lightest touch, it came loose in my palm.
I turned it over.
On the back, in tiny, almost illegible script, were three words:
*I’m sorry, Elena.*
I looked at it for a few seconds, then set the fragment on the table, took out a fresh evidence bag, sealed it, marked the date, and filed it away with the rest of the case materials.
Aisha watched me. “You’re not putting it back on the music box?”
“That’s his apology, not my mother’s music box.”
I carefully wiped the remaining glue from the seam.
“His apology doesn’t belong with her memories.”
That same day, the podcast platform issued another notice. All of Sloane’s content had been permanently removed, and she was barred from re-uploading it under any other account.
That afternoon, the Vale Foundation confirmed that Graham had resigned as CEO and would no longer be involved in any of its charitable projects.
After the resignation took effect, he sent me a photo.
His office was empty. The desk and chairs were gone, leaving only a single cardboard box by the window.
On top of the box sat our engagement photo. In it, I was wearing the ring, my smile unguarded.
Beside it was the marriage registration slip we had never used.
There was no text.
No request.
I looked at the email, archived it, and closed the storm box.
