My Fiancé Had A Secret Wife Chapter 03
“Leave. Now. Stop ruining Vivian’s night.”
Serena locked her hand around my wrist and dragged me toward the lounge upstairs.
This room used to be ours—mine and Adrian’s.
He’d draped a soft cashmere throw over the reading chair, because I always came off night shifts freezing. He kept the mini fridge stocked with the protein bars I lived on between surgeries. There was a massage chair in the corner too—he’d bought it after I came home from a fourteen-hour surgery with my neck so locked up I could barely turn my head. He’d been worried sick.
Now the whole room had been turned into a nursery. For him. And another woman.
“He loves Vivian, Evelyn,” Serena said. “You’re the surgeon who saved his life. That’s it. He just confused gratitude for love.”
She crossed the room and yanked down the linen panel on the wall. Behind it, photographs. Dozens of them.
Adrian and Vivian.
Skiing together on the slopes at Aspen. On a terrace above the Amalfi Coast, watching the sun drop into the sea. A gondola in Venice, their names carved side by side into the wood.
“Three years,” Serena said, almost pitying. “They’ve been together for three years.”
“Your birthday last year? Adrian wasn’t handling an acquisition in Zurich. Lucas and I weren’t on our honeymoon in Portugal. We were all in France, Evelyn. At their wedding.”
I stared at the wedding portrait dead center on the wall.
“The malpractice complaint was Adrian’s idea. He knew if you found out who Vivian was, you’d refuse to treat her. That’s the only reason we kept it from you this long.”
I looked at Serena like I was seeing a stranger.
Not long ago, at her wedding to my brother, she’d pressed the bouquet into my hands herself. She’d cried and wished me a lifetime of happiness. She’d cornered Adrian and told him if he ever let me down, she’d never forgive him.
And now here she was, helping another woman steal the life I was supposed to have, telling me to my face—
You were the one who got left behind.
The tears came, and at that same moment, the door opened behind us.
“Evelyn—” Adrian started.
I slid the diamond off my finger and pressed it into Vivian’s palm.
“Since you love each other,” I said, “I hope the three of you are very happy together.”
