The Girl I Fed For Five Years Stole My Fiancé Chapter 01

The Courthouse Bomb

The clerk calls our number at the courthouse—and that’s when Kane stops walking and drops the bomb.

“The truth is, the woman I really love is Mia.”

I freeze.

“Last month, while you were on that business trip, I took her to the Maldives. We already slept together.”

“Last night, she cried in my arms and begged for one last time. She swore she’d disappear after today. But I couldn’t do it to her, Ronnie. I love her too much.”

“Mia’s too sweet. Too fragile. She can’t live without me. I won’t abandon her.”

My head snaps toward Mia Jensen, standing there all quiet and doe-eyed.

This little snake.

Ten minutes ago she was hugging me, sobbing about how grateful she was for five years of my money, calling me the big sister she never had.

Now she’s hiding behind Kane, eyes all red and glassy. “I’m so sorry, Ronnie… but love doesn’t wait for permission…”

Kane glances down at the marriage license in his hand, casual as ordering coffee.

“Ronnie, I’m done lying to you.”

“Relax. You’ll still be Mrs. Griffin. Mia just needs to stay with me. That’s all.”

“You wanna go in and sign the papers? Your call.”

I stare at Kane. Then slowly, slowly, at the girl cowering behind him.

Seven years. I loved this man for seven years.

Five years. I paid this girl’s bills for five years.

And they were rolling around in a hotel bed in the Maldives. Screwing each other the night before our wedding day.

I rip the number ticket into confetti.

The pieces flutter down onto the courthouse floor.

Kane’s face darkens instantly.

“Ronnie, what the hell is wrong with you?”

“This is a government building. Keep it together.”

I ignore him. My eyes lock on Mia.

“I supported you for five whole years.”

“I paid your tuition. Bought your clothes. Covered your mother’s hospital bills. Every damn dime came from me.”

“And this is how you thank me? Crawling into my fiancé’s bed?”

Mia flinches. She clutches Kane’s sleeve, mumbling through fake tears.

“No—Ronnie, that’s not… You have money, family, a career. You’d be fine even without a husband.”

“But all I have is Kane! If you… if you can’t accept us, I’ll just kill myself right here! I’ll smash my head into that pillar!”

She actually starts backing up toward a marble column, sobbing like she means it.

Kane lunges, catching her against his chest. Then he whirls on me.

“That’s enough, Ronnie!”

“I get it, you’re always Little Miss Perfect.”

“But Mia has *severe depression*, okay? Do you seriously want her blood on your hands?”

Depression?

I laugh out loud. Dry. Ugly.

“She wasn’t depressed spending my money.”

“She wasn’t depressed in a bikini in the Maldives.”

“But now she gets called out for being a homewrecker, and suddenly she’s depressed?”

Kane’s eyes flicker with panic. He recovers fast, voice climbing.

“I took her there! She was stressed! She needed a break!”

“Why do you always have to be such a control freak?”

I stare at the man I’ve loved for seven years and I don’t recognize a single inch of him.

I gave up my visa to grad school abroad for you. I built you up from nothing. And you think you’re entitled to all of it.
