324 Nights. Not One Was Mine Chapter 02

“God in heaven! How did I end up with a lying whore for a daughter-in-law?!”

“Sleeps around and then dares slander my son! What kind of monster does something like this?!”

The moment Margaret started crying, Chloe rushed over to prop her up, cursing the whole way.

“Mom, don’t work yourself up! This kind of trash just wants to drag my brother down so she can bury her own filth!”

“She’s not stepping foot out that door until she signs!”

Then she grabbed my arm and started dragging me toward the table.

“Sign it!”

I wrenched free.

“I’m not signing.”

“I didn’t do it. Why would I admit to it?”

Chloe backhanded me across the face and grabbed a fistful of my hair.

My scalp burned. I stumbled and nearly knocked over a chair.

Ethan didn’t move. He just stood there, watching me with a dark expression.

“Evelyn, we can end this the easy way. You sign, and we part civilly.”

“If you keep this up, I’ll call the police. I’ll file for concealment of marital assets.”

I almost laughed.

He was the one who had done wrong. And now he stood there like the long-suffering husband forced into a corner.

The relatives ate it up.

“Ethan’s been more than fair.”

“After all this, he’s still willing to settle it privately. What more do you want?”

“Just sign it, Evelyn. Stop making a scene.”

I knew—every word I said now would be wasted.

They didn’t care about the truth. They just wanted to see me bow my head.

I reached out, grabbed the divorce agreement, and tore it clean in half with a sharp *rip*.

“You want me to walk out of here empty-handed so someone else can move in?”

“Dream on.”

That was when the room really erupted.

“You dare tear it up?!” Margaret shrieked, lunging at me. She dug her nails into my arm. “You’ve slept with half the city and you still want to freeload off my family?!”

Chloe rushed in too, shoving down on my shoulders.

“Kneel!”

They yanked me off balance and my lower back slammed into the corner of the table. Pain flashed white behind my eyes.

But not one person in that room moved to stop them.

Then Margaret suddenly turned toward the open front door and started shouting into the hallway.

“Somebody! Come see! Everyone come look!”

“My son’s wife has been caught cheating—won’t admit it, and now she’s *hitting* her husband’s mother and sister!”

My stomach lurched.

Before time rewound, this was exactly how she’d summoned every neighbor on the floor.

Sure enough, within thirty seconds, doors began opening up and down the hallway. Heads peered out of doorways.

Some had their phones out, filming.

Others walked over, looking at me with disbelief.

“Oh my God, what happened?”

“She always seemed so quiet. Who would’ve guessed?”

The more people gathered, the harder Margaret sobbed.

“My son works himself to the bone, and *this* is what he brings home!”

“Plays the proper wife by day, spends his money on other men by night!”

Every accusation drew a chorus of agreement from the doorway.

“Disgusting woman.”

“Throwing her out with nothing is still too good for her.”

“Someone needs to put this online. She should never be able to show her face again.”

The words landed in my chest like weights.

But I knew better than anyone—if I flinched now, they’d stomp me into the ground exactly the way they had before.
