Premature Labor After The Alpha Took My Hospital Bag Chapter 01
My Alpha took my hospital bag while I was on the verge of giving birth.
“Alina might be going into labor. She doesn’t have anything ready—yours will have to do.”
I braced myself against the wall, barely able to speak.
“What about me? I think the pup is coming.”
He slid my phone and the main house access key into his pocket.
“You’re not even due yet. Stop playing the victim for attention.”
“Be a good girl and stay home. I’ll come back and keep you company later.”
…
The front door slammed shut.
I dragged my heavy body to the entryway and wrenched at the door handle with everything I had.
He’d locked it from the outside.
There was no opening it from within.
A crushing pain tore through my lower abdomen.
A rush of warm fluid coursed down my inner thighs and splattered against the hardwood floor.
My water had broken.
Dennis had taken my phone, so I could only crawl toward the landline in the corner of the living room.
My fingers had just grazed the receiver when I noticed the phone cord had been severed at the base.
The cut was fresh.
The contractions came faster and harder. Cold sweat beaded on my forehead as I slid down the wall to the floor.
Survival instinct drove me to use my last shred of strength to crawl toward the balcony.
I was on the second floor. Beyond the balcony lay the garden, and there were always patrol guards nearby.
I shoved the window open and screamed at the ground below.
“Help!”
“Is anyone there? Please, contact the infirmary for me!”
My voice drew several guards quickly enough, but what they said plunged me into an ice-cold abyss.
“Luna, please don’t put us in a difficult position.”
“Alpha gave us specific instructions before he left. He said you’ve been emotionally unstable during the pregnancy—that you like to scream and shout.”
“He also said you’ve been imagining you’re about to give birth these past few days. Told us to ignore any commotion we hear, no matter what.”
I gripped the window frame so hard my nails scraped against the metal with a piercing shriek.
“My water actually broke!”
“Please, take me to the infirmary—I’m having the baby!”
The guard shook his head.
“Alpha said anyone who opens the door for you or takes you to the infirmary is interfering with your marriage, and he’ll hold them personally responsible.”
“You should go back inside and rest. If there’s anything else, you can let us know.”
With that, the group resumed their patrol.
Watching their retreating figures, I couldn’t force a single sound from my throat.
Dennis had sealed off every escape route.
He’d even cut off the possibility of anyone’s kindness reaching me.
I stumbled back inside, my vision blurring.
The pup inside me seemed to sense the danger and began kicking frantically.
My knees buckled and I crashed into the coffee table, sending the fruit bowl flying.
Glass shattered across the floor.
The wreckage spread before my eyes.
I can’t die.
My palm fumbled across the ground until it closed around a sharp shard of glass.
I was going to break down the door.
Even if I destroyed my hands in the process, I was getting out.
The communication crystal mounted on the living room ceiling suddenly flared red.
Dennis’s cold voice emanated from within.
“Melinda, are you done with your tantrum?”
His voice echoed through the empty living room, dripping with condescension.
I raised my head and stared at the crystal—the one he’d installed supposedly because he worried about me.
Now it had become a tool for him to judge me.
I lifted my blood-soaked hand toward the glowing projection.
“Dennis, I’m bleeding. I’m really in labor.”
A contemptuous scoff crackled through the crystal.
“Not this again.”
“Last time you used red ink to fake spotting. What is it this time?”
“Alina is in agony right now, and you’re at home putting on a show for sympathy.”
“Melinda, you’re truly a disappointment.”
My body convulsed with pain. Blood had already pooled beneath me.
“Dennis, for the pup’s sake.”
“Call the infirmary.”
