The Mafia’s Lost Daughter Came Home. Then She Tore the Family Apart. Chapter 06
A few days after her fake illness fell apart, Chiara went quiet.
I knew her type.
Someone like that doesn’t back down without a fight, she bites back.
That evening I went into the old part of town for my favorite street food.
The second I turned into a narrow, empty alley, a dozen guys with baseball bats blocked both ends.
The one leading them had bleached blond hair and a leer, rubbing his hands together.
“Well, well. The real Moretti heir. Pretty little thing, aren’t you?”
“Boss said if we ruin her and get it on video, our pay doubles.”
I took another bite of my food and sighed.
Cheap tactics. Nothing original about it.
I set the rest down on a brick ledge and pulled a steel baton out of my bag.
Click. It snapped open.
“Your boss. That’d be Chiara, right?”
Blondie blinked. “How’d you know that?”
“Wasn’t hard. Nobody else is stupid enough to pay for… Well, a bunch of losers.”
With that, I moved. The baton turned into a blur.
Crack.
It caught Blondie square on the jaw. A few bloody teeth hit the pavement.
For the next five minutes, the alley filled with one-sided noise.
Screaming, mostly. Guys this pathetic didn’t need thirty percent of my effort.
Five minutes later, a dozen men lay in the dirt, arms and legs broken, groaning.
I walked up to Blondie and lifted his chin with the baton.
“Want to live?”
He wet himself on the spot, nodding fast.
“Please, please, don’t kill me! It was Chiara! That bitch hired all of us!”
I nodded, satisfied. “Good to know. She likes messing with people so much, I’ll send her a little gift back.”
The next morning, just past sunrise, the wealthiest neighborhood in the city woke up to chaos.
The Morettis’ ornate iron gates had a dozen men hanging upside down from them, stripped down to their underwear.
Each one had a cardboard sign taped to his chest, painted in red.
CHIARA’S BEDROOM VISITORS.
Blondie, dead last in the row, had Chiara’s pink baby onesie stuffed in his mouth.
Neighbors out walking their dogs gathered outside the gates, whispering, pointing.
“My God, that fake heiress has some tastes.”
“Twenty years old in baby clothes, turns out it’s some kind of kink? God, this family’s gone completely off the rails.”
Enzo and Marco opened the front doors to find that scene waiting for them.
Enzo’s eyes rolled back and he nearly went down on the spot.
Marco shook with rage, barking orders to get the men down.
But by then, the story had already spread across the whole city.
The Moretti name was ruined. Moretti Holdings opened down limit at the market bell.
Two major deals got pulled by partners citing reputational risk.
In the study, Enzo slammed his hand on the desk hard enough to send pens flying.
“Reese! You’ve buried this family and you’re satisfied now?”
I sat on the leather couch, filing my nails, unhurried.
“Interesting way to put it, Enzo. Chiara hired the guys, Chiara started this. And you’re blaming me for it?”
Marco’s jaw clenched.
“If you hadn’t strung them up on our own gate, this wouldn’t be all over the city!”
A pause. The air between us froze. Then I spoke.
“Fine.”
I set down the nail file and looked up at him.
“If you’re all going to keep protecting her like this, don’t blame me for what comes next. “
“From today on, don’t expect me to save this family’s face again.”
