The Mafia’s Lost Daughter Came Home. Then She Tore the Family Apart. Chapter 07
Enzo’s expression went icy, a sharp, mocking laugh escaping his lips.
“You think you’re in a position to negotiate? Don’t make me laugh.”
“You’re nothing but a girl from the sticks, a parasite living off the Morettis. You eat our food, you sleep under our roof—and you think you can threaten us?”
He turned to the butler, his voice a harsh bark.
“Effective immediately, freeze all of Reese’s accounts. Not a single cent, not a crumb of bread.”
“Let’s see how long this stray lasts without our charity.”
Watching them stand there, so smugly convinced they still held my leash, I couldn’t help it.
I laughed.
“You’re missing the bigger picture.”
I stood up, pulled a document from my bag, and flicked it right into Enzo’s face.
“Moretti Holdings has been hemorrhaging cash for two years. Every single one of your external ventures is a sinkhole.”
“Six months ago, an anonymous investor—code name Q—quietly injected five hundred million dollars to stop this entire house of cards from collapsing.”
I watched their faces freeze. I didn’t stop.
“Turns out, I am Q. “
“What?” Enzo’s face went pale.
“So there it was. The fine dining you enjoy, the bespoke suits you wear—hell, even the money Chiara used to hire those thugs to jump me…”
“It all came from me. You want to cut off my funding? Yet you’d have to actually have some first.”
The color totally drained from Enzo’s face.
He scrambled to grab the document, his eyes racing across the pages.
There, stamped in ink at the very top, was the seal of my private fund.
The legal representative listed in plain English: Reese Moretti.
Marco’s hands wouldn’t stop shaking. “Impossible… This can’t be. “
“You grew up in the middle of nowhere. How could you be Q?”
I pulled out my phone and dialed my assistant on speaker.
“Liquidate everything. Pull every cent out of Moretti Holdings. Sell our entire stake. “
“And call the bank—tell them it’s time to collect on the family’s outstanding loans.”
I hung up and looked at my brothers, whose faces had turned a sickly shade of gray.
“Give it six hours, and Moretti Holdings will be filing for bankruptcy. You two love playing the ‘untouchable’ card, don’t you? “
“Go practice that act on a street corner. You’re about to have plenty of free time.”
Within two hours, Enzo’s phone was ringing off the hook.
Shareholders were screaming for their money. The bank was calling in debts.
Every partner they had was jumping ship.
The estate staff saw the writing on the wall and walked out without even waiting for their final checks.
By nightfall, the Moretti mansion couldn’t even cover the electric bill. The entire house plunged into a cold, suffocating silence.
Chiara threw a tantrum in the darkened living room, famished.
“Where is dinner? I want my steak! Someone feed me!”
Leo sat slumped on the couch, his voice a hoarse whisper.
“There’s no money left, Chiara. There’s nothing.”
Chiara froze. She knew exactly what this meant. Without the Moretti name, she was a nobody.
In the dark, she glared at my bedroom door, her chest heaving.
“Reese… you did this to me.”
Falling from the heights of privilege to the gutter overnight—that specific brand of despair, watching your world erode beneath your feet—it cuts deeper than any blade.
I stood at the second-floor railing, looking down at the three of them cowering together like stray dogs. I felt nothing.
They should have picked a different girl to mess with.
Now they knew exactly who they were dealing with.
