Fat Girls Are Not A Bet Chapter 07

Every eye turned to Adrian.

When they’d designed the challenges, they’d been giddy with anticipation, competing to see who could invent the most humiliating scenario for me.

Because in their heads, Adrian was going to feed cake to a three-hundred-thirty-pound girl, hold her hand for a photo, and finally carry her bridal-style.

Any way you sliced it, it was hilarious.

But no one was laughing now.

Adrian just looked down at me.

“You’re sure? No regrets?”

“What’s there to regret?”

I glanced at the list of tasks.

“First one, feeding each other cake.”

The words were barely out when Nico shoved the ugly cake behind him.

“Not that one. I’ll get the restaurant to bring a new one.”

“Not necessary.”

Adrian stopped him and picked up a small, untouched cake from the side of the table.

He unwrapped it and cut a piece with a fork.

His movements were clean and efficient, no trace of self-consciousness even with the room watching.

I was the one caught off guard by how willing he was.

He held the fork out to me.

Muffled heckling started up around us.

“Adrian, you gotta actually feed her, mouth to mouth.”

“Yeah, come on, just handing it to her doesn’t count.”

“Can you *shut up*?”

Adrian’s gaze swept coldly over them.

They fell silent instantly, though the smirks were still barely contained.

He turned back to me, voice lower.

“Is this okay?”

I nodded and leaned in to eat the cake off the fork.

Simple as it was, the room erupted again.

“Oh my god, he actually fed her!”

Someone even pulled out a phone to take a picture.

I took the fork from him, cut a piece myself, and held it up to him.

He seemed to freeze for a second.

Then he bent down slightly and took the bite.

The room went wild.

Adrian was six-foot-five. Even in my heels, I only came up to his shoulder.

When he leaned down, we were very close.

I could see clearly—the tips of his ears had gone faintly red.

I wouldn’t have guessed someone who looked this cold would get shy.

“Alright, first task done!”

Nico waved his phone, more excited than before.

“Second one—hold hands, take a photo, post it in the freshman group!”

I’d barely set the fork down before Adrian extended his hand toward me.

Long fingers. Palm up.

He wasn’t reaching for me directly, more like waiting for me to decide.

I put my hand in his.

His fingers curled gently, steady, closing around mine.

Another chorus of sharp inhales.

“He actually held her hand?”

“Adrian is being so cooperative tonight.”

“I’d cooperate too. Not just hand-holding—hold you all night, since Adrian’s this hot!”

The one who said it laughed out loud, then caught Adrian’s glare and quickly shut up.

Nico raised his phone to take the picture.

In the shot, Adrian and I stood shoulder to shoulder.

He was much taller than me. The black shirt made his features look colder.

Beside him, I was in my black slip dress, our hands naturally linked.

The photo went straight into the freshman group chat.

The same people who’d been waiting for me to embarrass myself flooded the chat with messages.

“Who is this gorgeous girl?”

“Weren’t Adrian and 330-lb. Olivia supposed to be doing the couple’s challenges tonight?”

“Did they switch her out at the last minute?”

Nico bit back a laugh and typed:

**[No switch. She IS Olivia Reed.]**

Two seconds of silence, then the chat completely exploded.

Some people thought the photo was fake.

Some kept asking whether I’d had plastic surgery.

Most were tagging Ethan.

**[Ethan, you bet away a girlfriend THIS pretty?]**

**[No but seriously, Ethan, have you lost your mind?]**

**[Ten grand betting Olivia wouldn’t come? You literally paid to hand your girlfriend to another guy.]**

Ethan’s phone was buzzing nonstop.

He glanced down, and his face darkened.

Serena, seated next to him, wasn’t looking great either.

From the moment we started taking the photo, Ethan’s eyes had been locked on Adrian’s and my hands.

Even now, we hadn’t let go.

Finally, he couldn’t take it anymore. He walked over.

“That’s enough.”

He was staring at Adrian, voice cold.

“You already took the picture. Why are you still holding her hand?”
