Fat Girls Are Not A Bet Chapter 08

Before Adrian could respond, Serena stood up and grabbed him.

“Ethan, it’s their task, don’t ruin the game for them.”

She was pleading with her mouth, but her fingers were digging into Ethan’s arm.

Ethan shook her off.

“I know it’s a task.”

He looked at me, biting off each word.

“But the third one is a ten-second bridal carry.”

“No need to do that.”

The heckling around us gradually died out.

Adrian looked at him evenly.

“That’s not really your call, is it?”

Then he let go of my hand.

Before I could react, one arm slid behind my back, another under my knees.

The floor dropped out from under me.

Instinctively, I threw my arms around his neck.

Adrian settled me steadily against his chest and lowered his eyes to Ethan.

“Start the clock.”

The instant he said it, the room lit up with the countdown.

“Ten!”

“Nine!”

“Eight!”

The cheering was loud enough to lift the roof off.

I hadn’t expected him to just pick me up—my whole body tensed reflexively.

Through the thin fabric of his shirt, I could feel his shoulders and back go taut.

But his hold on me was rock steady.

Forget ten seconds. His breathing didn’t even shift.

Nico crowded in with his phone up.

“Adrian, look at the camera!”

“You gotta save this for the memories!”

Adrian shot him one cold look.

“Put the phone down.”

Nico shrank back, though the smirk on his face got even more suggestive.

“Fine, fine, no snapping unauthorized pictures of your girlfriend.”

The room laughed harder.

Ethan, meanwhile, had gone black in the face.

“Enough!”

He reached out suddenly, trying to pull me down.

“The task is done. Put Olivia down.”

Adrian turned his body to shield me.

Ethan’s hand closed on air. His expression only got worse.

“Adrian, what’s your point?”

“Olivia is my—”

He stopped mid-sentence.

Everyone was watching him.

“She’s your what?” Adrian asked.

Ethan opened his mouth, but no words came out.

His ex-girlfriend?

Just last night, in front of the entire group, he’d said he’d played dice and lost me to Adrian.

He’d even bet ten thousand dollars to prove how little he cared, betting I wouldn’t dare show up.

Calling me his girlfriend now would just make him look ridiculous.
