The Wedding Was A Game And Her Father Was The Prize Chapter 04

Before dawn, I was already on the way to Logan International Airport with Dad.

On the way, Nolan texted.

【Bianca and I are at the airport. Come find us.】

I didn’t answer a single one.

He called more than ten times right after. I sent every one to voicemail.

Once I got Dad settled in the VIP lounge, I went to the counter to check our bags.

The aftereffects of last night’s emergency care hadn’t worn off. My limbs felt weak, and my chest was tight with dull, pulsing pain.

I had barely wheeled my suitcase into the main hall when I ran straight into Nolan and Bianca.

Bianca had her arm wound intimately through his.

“See, Nolan honey? I told you. She can’t keep a tantrum going for more than a day. Look at her, running right back to us like a good girl.”

Nolan saw my suitcase and let out an audible breath of relief.

“Since you’re here, drop the attitude. Go get your bags checked.”

I looked at him, cold, and didn’t say a word.

He still thought I was here to join him on that absurd little three-person honeymoon of theirs.

Bianca suddenly let go of his arm, playing sweet.

“Nolan honey, I’m dying of thirst. Can you grab me a latte first?”

Nolan glanced at the boarding time, frowned faintly, then turned and headed for the coffee bar anyway.

The moment he was out of earshot.

The smile on Bianca’s face iced over.

“Claire Sutton, let’s make a bet, you and me.”

“I bet by the end of this honeymoon, I’ll have Nolan Ashford completely. If I win, you hand him over. What do you say?”

I looked at that self-satisfied little tilt of her chin and only felt sad for her.

Back in college, she wouldn’t have wasted a syllable on a scholarship kid like me.

She only slid up beside me and became my “best friend forever” after she saw I was with Nolan.

She wanted to use Nolan as her stake.

But a man like Nolan wasn’t worth anyone fighting over.

I didn’t give her the angry reaction she was waiting for.

“No need to bet. He’s yours.”

Then, ignoring the way her face froze mid-smile, I turned and wheeled my suitcase away.

Half an hour later.

Dad and I had already boarded the flight to Munich.

When Nolan came back with the coffee, what he saw was Bianca in tears.

He immediately dialed my number.

“Claire Sutton, what the hell did you say to Bianca? She can’t stop crying!”

“Get over here and apologize to her, right now. Or you can forget about coming to Aspen.”

On the other end of the line, I answered quietly.

“Nolan, I’m not going to Aspen.”

“Have a lovely honeymoon.”

Nolan actually laughed.

“Claire Sutton, enough.”

“If you’re not going to Aspen, then where exactly did you drag a suitcase to the airport for at the crack of dawn?”

What answered him was the clear boarding announcement coming through my end of the call.

【Now boarding, Lufthansa Flight 423 to Munich. All passengers, please proceed to Gate B12.】

【This flight is now departing for Munich.】

“Of course I’m not going. I’m taking my father where we’re supposed to be.”

“Nolan. Goodbye. For good.”
