I Was The Fake Heiress—Then Found Real Heir Was My Ex Chapter 11
You Were Never Supposed to Matter
Thomas stopped pretending when he realized we knew.
He came to the house and asked to speak to me alone.
Simon refused.
Thomas laughed.
“Still protecting her? She isn’t your sister.”
Simon’s face went blank.
“Good.”
I almost laughed.
Thomas looked at me.
“You should be grateful.”
“For what?”
“For the life you got.”
My hands curled into fists.
“You stole Simon’s life.”
“And gave you one.”
He smiled.
“You were never supposed to matter, Daphne.”
Something inside me went still.
For twenty-two years, I had worried about whether I deserved the Ashford name.
Thomas had just answered the wrong question.
I didn’t need to have been meant for this life.
I had lived it.
I had earned every board seat, every negotiation, every decision.
And Simon had done the same with his own life.
Thomas had tried to erase one heir and create a useless substitute.
Instead, he had created two people he couldn’t control.
I smiled at him.
“That must be embarrassing.”
His face darkened.
“What?”
“You spent twenty-two years trying to get rid of one Ashford heir.”
I looked at Simon.
“And somehow ended up with two.”
