At My Wedding The Ring Fit My Sister Chapter 09

His wound throbbed with a cold sweat.

He murmured without thinking:

“Sometimes I really wish I’d never walked into your room that night.”

If he hadn’t, he’d be married to Clara by now.

Their child would almost be born.

Vivian went rigid.

She stared at him.

“What do you mean?”

Adrian closed his eyes.

“Nothing. Forget what I just said.”

Vivian’s voice turned shrill.

“Adrian, what do you mean? You regret being with me, don’t you? Now everyone despises me. And you don’t want me either?”

She gritted her teeth, reached for the knife, and made as if to cut her wrist again.

“I’ll die right here in front of you!”

Adrian snapped.

He shoved her away.

“Then go die! You think I still want to see your face?”

“Vivian, I’ve done more than enough for you. What exactly did I do wrong for you to punish me like this?”

“You turn this house into a war zone every single day. I already lost Clara because of you—isn’t that enough? How much longer are you going to torture me?”

Vivian crumpled to the floor, tears rolling down in heavy drops.

She crawled over crying and clung to him.

“That’s not it, I didn’t mean to. Adrian, don’t be like this with me. You love me, don’t you?”

“From the very beginning you said—that night, you knew it was me. You said you’d rather keep making the same mistake than be without me.”

“You said you never regretted it. We’re in this mess because of Clara.”

“It’s all because she wouldn’t go along with us. Why are you blaming me? I’m a victim too…”

She wept and wailed like an immature child.

Adrian looked at her, exhausted beyond measure.

He spoke quietly, shredding her last scrap of dignity.

“Vivian, wake up. You were never a victim. You seduced your own sister’s man. Clara didn’t ruin you. She fought back.”

Vivian stopped crying.

She glared at him. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

She stood up, stared at him, backed away a few steps, then let out a cold laugh.

“So now you want to push all the blame onto me, is that it?”

“Adrian, you can’t forget her. You want to go crawling back to her, don’t you?”

“What, you finally remember how good my little sister was? Finally feel guilty?”

“Where was this conscience before? You weren’t this devoted back then. Back then you told me I was all you could think about, that you wanted to be with me forever!”

Adrian closed his eyes.

In that instant, his revulsion hit a point beyond endurance.

“Because I can’t fucking stand you anymore!”

He looked up at her, hatred unhidden in his eyes.

“Vivian, I regret everything. You want to die, then die on your own. Stop dragging me down to hell with you.”

“You’ve lost your mind, but I haven’t. I want to live like a normal person.”

He drew a deep breath, eyes dropping, voice exhausted.

“Let me go. Let’s get a divorce.”

Vivian went completely rigid.

The next second, she hurled the knife at him.

“Don’t you dare! You want to live like a normal person, so that makes me abnormal, is that it?”

“Adrian, I became this way because of you! Because of you!”

Her eyes were bloodshot, her finger trembling as she pointed at him.

“Let me tell you something—you will never get rid of me in this lifetime! We’re legally registered, remember? You said we’d be husband and wife. You said I was your real wife!”

Adrian closed his eyes in agony.

In that instant, his regret reached its absolute peak.

He lowered his head, buried his face between his knees, and let out a cold, hollow laugh.

The laughter turned into something else—he clutched his head and howled in pain, sobbing.

Every last bit of it was his own doing.

That marriage certificate should have been his and Clara’s.

But he’d given it to Vivian.

All for that one line—

“At least in this lifetime, we’ll have truly been husband and wife.”

Now that piece of paper was a shackle locked tight around his neck.

One he could never break free from.
