The Don Bows Only To His Curvy Crush Chapter 06
The Fake ID and the Ride Home
My heart yanks up into my throat.
He hasn’t said a word about it all night. So I let myself think he’d forgotten.
Now here it is, out of nowhere, with the safety off.
I swallow the panic and give him my best confused smile. “I’m sorry — I don’t follow. Should I have?”
Dante lets out a low, dry laugh and turns his head.
His eyes go black in the dim.
“I hosted every week meeting for two years. Most of the workers in my family had seen my face.”
He leans in. The air between us goes hot. “They didn’t once tell me I’d had work done.”
The silence stretches. My palms start to sweat.
I don’t know how much he suspects. But there was no way I was walking in tonight without a story.
I unlock my phone, pull up the file, and hand it to him.
“I’m sorry about that comment. I was out of line.”
“I did work for your family when I graduated from high school, but I left soon after I paid off my debt.”
Before the studio launched me, they scrubbed everything.
New name. New age. New paperwork — clean enough to survive any tabloid dig.
I never thought the first time I’d use it would be against Dante.
His eyes drop to the screen. His brow tightens for a beat.
Then — a small, unreadable smile. “That explains it.”
The weight in my chest drops six floors.
Cover holds. Time to move.
I clear my throat, cheeks burning. “Don Moretti — would you rather head back to a hotel, or to your place?”
He looks at me. Doesn’t answer.
Five seconds. Ten.
Every one of them feels like a knife.
Then he leans forward and knocks on the divider.
“Take Miss Rose home first.”
