Revenge On My Feet Chapter 25
Mr. Renwick was the first to speak.
“We’ll do it Nadia’s way.”
“The project she brought in has already proven that reasonable support isn’t the same thing as lowering the bar.”
The proposal finally passed.
On the day the first group of interns began, I stood at the door of the conference room.
I saw people in wheelchairs, people wearing hearing aids, and people like me with prosthetics.
No one asked them to talk about their pain.
In their introductions, they spoke about their majors, their past projects, and the roles they hoped to fill.
One of the girls caught up with me after the meeting.
“Manager Vance, I watched your press conference.”
Instinctively, I braced for a question about the video.
But what she asked was,
“How were you brave enough to take on such a big project back then?”
I thought of the day Yvonne had laid the files down in front of me.
“I wasn’t sure I could do it, either.”
“But when the opportunity came, I didn’t want to be the one who turned myself down on someone else’s behalf.”
She nodded, then glanced at my left leg.
“I have my first client meeting next week.”
“I’m a little worried they’ll just stare.”
I didn’t tell her that if people stared a few more times, she’d get used to it.
I only said,
“You’re allowed to be nervous.”
“And if someone makes you uncomfortable, you’re allowed to tell them to stop.”
“A work opportunity should never come at the price of enduring humiliation.”
Slowly, she smiled.

Slowly, she smiled.
“I understand.”
