Revenge On My Feet Chapter 27

Before the session began, Dr. Prescott came to see me.

“Nadia, long time no see.”

There was far more gray in his hair than I remembered.

“I’ve always felt terrible about that phone call.”

“I thought letting you talk to Desmond was helping, but I never asked what you wanted first.”

I looked at him.

“You respected my decision afterward.”

“That’s enough.”

He let out a breath of relief.

“I hear you’re running the whole program now. A lot of people at the school are talking about you.”

“I hope they’re talking about the application requirements.”

Dr. Prescott laughed.

“I’ll be sure to remind them.”

The lights came up, and I walked up the ramp and onto the stage.

Below me sat the students who were about to graduate.

Some of them noticed my prosthetic.

Others already had their heads down, paging through the materials in their hands.

I didn’t talk about the day I fell down the steps.

I didn’t wrap my pain into a tidy success story.

I just walked them through the positions, the salaries, the assessments, and the application process.

During the Q&A, a student stood up.

“What if other people think we only got the opportunity because we’re being given special treatment?”

I held the microphone and thought for a few seconds.

“Then let the system answer for you.”

“The same position goals, the same work outcomes, with reasonable accessibility support.”

“You don’t need to perform pain, and you don’t need to perform strength.”

“You only need to decide whether this is the path you want to take.”
