After He Blinded Me The Don Begged For Forgiveness Chapter 02

After He Blinded Me The Don Begged For Forgiveness Chapter 02

Only after I was sure he was gone did I return to the therapy room.

A coworker came over and nudged me.

“You two know each other? That’s Don Soren, you know.”

I shook my head.

“Not really.”

Another coworker came over with a grin.

“Not really? He just signed up for a lifetime VIP membership here. Anna, you’re set for life.”

“Don Soren is so handsome. There isn’t another man like him on the entire East Coast.”

“If I were his goddaughter, I’d never have fought with him.”

I felt the irony of it but didn’t respond.

“I’m serious. To make his goddaughter comfortable, Don Soren traded three truckloads of weapons for that oceanfront estate on Long Island. A man like that—what more could anyone want?”

“I heard he’s still single. So devoted.”

I was quiet for a moment, then couldn’t hold it in any longer.

“Devoted?”

“Cheating on his wife and fathering twin bastards—that’s devoted?”

“Keeping a mistress in the oceanfront estate—that’s devoted?”

“His goddaughter of twelve years couldn’t even scrape together five dollars for a cup of coffee at the end—and that’s devoted?”

My coworker sucked in a breath.

“How… how do you know all that?”

I looked down, tugged at the corner of my mouth, and pulled out an old photograph of myself to hand to them.

“Were my eyes pretty?”

They nodded.

“Back then—you were beautiful.”

Gray-green eyes. They used to be called “the Costello emeralds.”

I pointed to the corner of my eye.

“This. Soren Costello did this.”

“You still think he’s a good man?”

Their mouths fell open in shock.

I didn’t respond further. I just went back to work calmly.

After the shop closed that evening, I picked up my white cane.

I bought lots of snacks and toys, and went to the fence outside Green-Wood Cemetery.

I arranged everything carefully, then placed each item slowly into the brazier.

I listened to them crackle as they burned.

“Caroline, are you doing alright over there?”

I touched the small, cold headstone.

“He came by today. He mentioned you.”

“But he’ll never lay eyes on you. Not in this lifetime.”
