My Fiancé Erased Our Nine-Year Mark For His Blood Servant Chapter 09
The Price of Immortality
The wedding hall is almost empty when Adrian returns.
The candles are still burning. Broken glasses and abandoned flowers cover the floor.
Sophia is still standing near the altar in her wedding dress.
The moment she sees him, relief floods her face.
“Adrian.”
She rushes toward him.
“I knew you’d come back.”
Adrian stops before she can touch him.
“Evelyn was the one who saved me.”
Sophia freezes.
Only for a second.
Then her eyes fill with tears.
“She’s lying.”
Adrian says nothing.
“You know what she’s like when she’s angry. She wants to punish you for choosing me.”
“Stop.”
Sophia reaches for his hand.
“You came back. That means we can still finish the ceremony.”
Adrian looks down at her fingers.
For three years, he has seen those hands tremble. He has watched Sophia grow weaker and blamed himself for every bad day.
He believed she was dying because she had saved him.
He almost destroyed Evelyn to repay that debt.
Adrian pulls his hand away.
“I’m ending the Blood Servant bond.”
Sophia’s expression changes instantly.
“No.”
The word comes too quickly.
Adrian looks at her.
Sophia forces a smile.
“You’re angry. I understand. We can talk after the wedding.”
“There will be no wedding.”
Her face turns pale.
“Adrian, don’t do this.”
He reaches toward the Blood Servant Mark at the base of her throat.
Sophia stumbles backward.
“No!”
Her hand flies over the mark.
Real terror replaces the tears.
“You can’t break it.”
“And why shouldn’t I?”
Sophia’s lips tremble.
“Because I won’t survive without you.”
Adrian goes still.
Sophia claimed the wedding was her final wish. Yet now, with the ceremony ruined, she does not mention love. She is terrified only of losing the bond keeping her alive.
Sophia seems to realize what she has said.
“It’s because I’ve been your servant for too long,” she says quickly. “My body depends on the bond now. You did this to me.”
Even now, she is trying to make him feel guilty.
Three days ago, it would have worked.
Adrian steps closer.
“Then you should have thought of that before you lied to me.”
“Adrian—”
He grips the mark beneath her throat.
Sophia screams.
“No! Please!”
The mark burns red beneath his palm.
For one second, the bond between them pulls tight.
Then Adrian breaks it.
The red mark vanishes.
The moment the bond breaks, Sophia collapses.
Without Adrian’s life force flowing through the mark, her body begins to fail.
A strand of her golden hair turns white.
Then another.
Dark veins spread beneath the skin of her neck.
Sophia stares at her hands as the skin begins to thin and wrinkle.
“No.”
She crawls toward Adrian.
“No, no, no. Give it back.”
Her eyes darken. Fangs push through her gums.
With a desperate cry, she lunges for his throat.
Adrian steps away.
“Please.” She grabs his pant leg. “Just a little blood. You don’t have to marry me. Just let me drink.”
He looks down at her.
Her pleading expression twists into hatred.
“You think this makes you innocent?” she spits.
Adrian’s jaw tightens.
“I never said I was.”
Her body convulses.
Sophia cries out, then starts laughing.
A broken, hateful sound.
“She had everything.”
Adrian stares at her.
“Evelyn,” Sophia gasps. “She was born immortal. Born powerful. Born into House Blackwood.”
Her eyes burn with hatred.
“I thought one mouthful would be enough.”
Adrian’s face goes cold.
Sophia smiles.
There is no point pretending anymore.
“I thought her blood would turn me into one of you.”
The truth lands exactly as Lucien described it.
“You drank from her while she was unconscious.”
“I didn’t know it would poison me!”
Sophia’s voice rises into a scream.
“I was supposed to become immortal!”
Another wave of pain hits her.
She curls forward as more white spreads through her hair.
Then she looks up at Adrian.
“And don’t look at me like I’m the only monster here.”
He says nothing.
Sophia laughs again.
“You want another truth?”
She touches the ruined wedding dress around her.
“I chose every piece of silver jewelry.”
Adrian stops breathing.
Sophia watches his face carefully.
““I knew they would burn her. I thought she would tear them off and leave. I wanted her gone. I wanted her to understand that the wedding was mine.”
“The baby,” Adrian says.
For the first time, Sophia looks confused.
“What?”
“She was pregnant.”
Silence.
“She lost our child because of the silver.”
Sophia’s face empties.
She did not know.
But a second later, something cruel twists across her mouth.
“I chose the silver,” she whispers. “But you made her wear it.”
Adrian flinches.
Sophia sees it.
So she pushes harder.
“I lied to you, Adrian.”
Her voice is weak now.
“But every time you had to choose between us, you chose me.”
Adrian cannot answer.
Because she is right.
Sophia lied.
But he was the one who believed her.
He was the one who erased Evelyn’s mark.
He was the one who gave away her wedding.
And he was the one who forced all that silver jewelry onto her body while she begged him to stop.
Sophia suddenly lunges for his wrist.
Adrian catches her before she can bite him and throws her back.
“Please!”
She hits the floor.
“I don’t want to die!”
Her body is failing faster now.
The stolen pureblood power burns through her without Adrian’s life force holding it back.
She reaches for him one last time.
“Adrian…”
He steps away.
Sophia’s hand falls.
The dark veins reach her face.
Her breathing stops.
For three years, Sophia tried to steal the one thing she believed Evelyn never deserved to have.
Immortality.
In the end, it is Evelyn’s blood that kills her.
