My Sacrifice Became His Betrayal Chapter 06
Never having seen Howard so furious, Madalyn ducked her head in fear and stammered, “I… I…”
Now, it all made sense.
Howard grabbed Madalyn’s face, his nails cutting into her skin, but he showed no mercy. He bellowed, “Didn’t I warn you to stay in your place and stay away from Adrianna?”
Terrified, Madalyn averted her gaze, and the cold sweat trickled down her back.
She never expected that, even after bearing his child, she still couldn’t measure up to Adrianna.
“I didn’t… Howie.
“Adrianna forced me to do it. She said it was the only way she could leave without guilt.
“Howie, she doesn’t love you anymore. Don’t throw your heart away on her.
“Look at me, will you? I gave you a son, and he’s being adopted today…
“No. He’s your flesh and blood, a true Atkinson. He deserves to be your heir…”
Before Madalyn could finish, Howard shoved her aside. “My son? How dare you bring that up? If you hadn’t seduced me, there wouldn’t be a child, and Adri wouldn’t have left!”
With a brutal kick, Howard slammed Madalyn against the wall. Then he leaned in and glared at her. “Madalyn, I warned you before. If you cross Adri, I’ll make you wish you were dead.”
Scared stiff, Madalyn clutched Howard’s pant leg and implored, “Please, Howie! Don’t turn your back on me! I love you more than anything.
“Please, for the sake of our son, don’t send me away! He’s just a baby. He needs his mother.”
Howard let out a bitter, self-mocking laugh. “Our son?
“Madalyn, you’re a slut. How do I even know that the child is mine?”
Madalyn recoiled into the wall, staring at Howard in shock.
She couldn’t believe that the man who had once whispered sweet nothings to her in bed could now cut her to the quick with such words.
Before she could react, Howard had someone drag her out of the villa.
Amid the mess of the living room, he pushed himself upright. His hand slipped as he accidentally yanked the drawer open.
When he caught sight of the ovulation shot, his head went blank. His chest tightened with a crushing ache as if his heart had been ripped apart.
Shaking, Howard snatched up the syringe, lifted his shirt, and stabbed it into his body.
He gasped at the pain, his legs nearly giving way.
That was just one dose. For years, I had taken one injection a day, sometimes two, and I even wanted to increase it to three after the day I discovered his secret.
Howard didn’t dare to imagine how much I had suffered to bear his child.
And it was that fire five years ago, when I risked my life to save him, that caused my infertility.
Suddenly, a loud smack shattered the silence of the villa.
As if that wasn’t enough, Howard slapped himself again.
Unsatisfied, he delivered another vicious slap.
Even after his cheeks swelled up, he still couldn’t find relief.
In a state of madness, he charged at the mirror and threw a punch at his reflection.
The mirror shattered. Blood ran from his knuckles. Howard propped himself on the sink and burst into tears. “Howard, you piece of shit!”
He slid down to the floor against the washstand and kept phoning me, but all he got was the same voicemail message.
“Where have you been, Adri?”
Refusing to give up, Howard pulled every string the Atkinson family had and swore to bring me back.
But I had long since followed Marcus to Jarvis Island to join his secret underwater research program.
