The Cat Who Spent Nine Lives Saving Me Chapter 14

The hospital livestream stirred up controversy. I disabled gifts on my livestreams, kept only scheduled consultations and my pet-store business, and applied for an emergency protective order.

My attorney sent formal notice that if my parents continued to harass me, I would recover the loans I had paid off for Nolan over the years and sue them for spreading false claims.

The store earned enough to support us.

I thought the ordeal was finally over. One day, I went to Maeve’s house to evaluate the ragdoll cat she had just adopted, leaving Domino and Sunny at the shop.

When I returned, Sunny lay in a pool of blood, one leg bent at an unnatural angle.

[Mom… the old warehouse… Domino…]

I told Maeve to take him to the emergency vet at once. Then I called the police and drove to the warehouse.

I heard a group laughing before I was even close. One of the voices belonged to Nolan.

“You won’t give me money? Then I’ll collect the interest from these filthy animals.”

Domino lay on the ground surrounded by blood. Nolan held a pair of scissors.

I rushed forward and slapped him across the face.

I had never hit him before. I was his older sister, his ATM, and the person he shoved around whenever he was in a bad mood.

Nolan froze for a second, then lunged at me, swinging the scissors.

A cat’s piercing cry tore through the warehouse.

Domino rammed Nolan’s wrist and fell to the floor like a kite with its string cut.

[Cat said Cat would protect you…]

Wild-eyed, Nolan raised the scissors again. I shielded Domino, and a burst of pain tore through my shoulder.

The police rushed in and pinned him to the ground.

I couldn’t feel my wound. I only gathered Domino into my shaking arms and finally broke down, sobbing.
