My Fiancé Chose His Friend’s Pregnant Widow And Lost Me Forever Chapter 01

He Walks Out of Our Wedding

The night before my wedding, my fiancé’s dead best friend’s pregnant widow moves into our condo.

I see it in Sophie’s latest post.

She’s sitting on our couch. Behind her is my wedding photo with Ethan.

Her caption reads:

After my husband died, his best friend gave me a place to stay until the baby comes. I’m lucky Daniel left me someone I can still count on.

I take my phone to Ethan.

“Why is Sophie living in our condo?”

“She’s only staying there temporarily.”

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

“Claire, she’s pregnant and alone. I couldn’t leave her alone in a rental.”

Daniel was Ethan’s best friend.

He died in a car accident six months ago, leaving Sophie pregnant.

Ethan has been helping her ever since.

I never had a problem with that.

But I never agreed to let her move into the home Ethan and I are supposed to share after our wedding.

“What about us?”

“We’ll still have a home.”

“That is our home.”

“Sophie only has the baby now.”

I look at him.

“And that’s enough reason to give her ours?”

He doesn’t answer.

The next day, Sophie posts a prenatal checkup report.

The baby’s been moving a lot today. Maybe he misses his dad.

One of Ethan’s friends shows him the post during our wedding ceremony.

Ethan is standing across from me with my ring in his hand.

Then he steps away.

“I need to go.”

“We’re in the middle of our wedding.”

“Sophie is having contractions.”

“Then she needs a doctor.”

“She’s alone.”

I look at him.

“If you walk out today, I’ll take it as you choosing to be her baby’s father instead of my husband.”

Everyone in the ballroom is watching us.

Then he turns and leaves.

My mother starts crying and my father grips the back of his chair.

Ethan’s mother comes over.

“Claire, I’ll have someone bring him back.”

“No.”

Behind us, the screen is still showing pictures of Ethan and me from the last seven years.

“Mom. Dad. Let’s go.”

One of Ethan’s friends follows me.

“Claire, Sophie could be in labor. If something happens to Daniel’s baby—”

“Don’t.”

He stops.

I leave the hotel with my parents.

Ethan calls me twelve times.

I don’t answer.

Then the messages start.

Sophie is okay.

I’m sorry.

I’m coming back now. Wait for me.

I read the last message twice.

Whenever Sophie needs him, he goes to her.

When she’s fine again, he comes back to me.

And every time, he expects me to still be there.
