My Fiancé Chose His Friend’s Pregnant Widow And Lost Me Forever Chapter 08
He Wants Me Back
Sophie’s account starts losing followers.
Brands cancel their deals with her.
Daniel’s family takes legal action.
Then she comes to the hospital looking for me.
“You ruined my life.”
I look at her.
“No. I didn’t.”
“If you hadn’t started digging into me, none of this would’ve happened.”
“You had your own home. Your own money. Brand deals. Daniel’s mother’s trust. And you had Ethan doing whatever you wanted out of guilt.”
I keep my voice calm.
“And you threw it all away yourself.”
“You think you’re better than me because Ethan wants you back?”
“This isn’t about Ethan.”
She steps toward me.
Then raises her hand.
Ryan catches her wrist before she can touch me.
“Don’t.”
Sophie immediately grabs her stomach.
“My baby—”
I take out my phone.
“I’m calling the police.”
She stares at me.
No one apologizes to her.
No one asks me to calm her down.
No one tells me she’s pregnant and I should understand.
A month later, Dad is discharged.
Ethan is waiting outside the hospital.
He’s holding the ring I took off the night we broke up.
“Claire, can I have five minutes?”
I don’t answer, but I don’t walk away.
“I was wrong about everything.”
He looks exhausted.
“I shouldn’t have left our wedding. I shouldn’t have let Sophie move into the condo. I shouldn’t have touched the money for your dad. I shouldn’t have let her posts destroy your reputation.”
I say nothing.
“I thought I was helping Daniel’s widow. I thought I was keeping a promise to him.”
“You chose her before you knew she was lying.”
He stops.
That’s the part he can’t explain away.
“The baby not being Daniel’s doesn’t change what happened,” I say.
“I know.”
“You left our wedding when you thought it was Daniel’s baby.”
“You left me alone when my father was in the ER.”
“I know.”
He holds out the ring.
“Give me another chance.”
I don’t take it.
“You only regret it now because I actually left.”
“Claire—”
“If I’d stayed, how long would it have taken you to understand what you were doing to me?”
He has no answer.
Then he asks quietly, “Is it Ryan?”
“No.”
I look at him.
“It’s me.”
