My Fiancé Chose His Friend’s Pregnant Widow And Lost Me Forever Chapter 09
This Time, He Is the One Left Outside
Dad gets better.
I go back to work.
Life slowly becomes normal again, and Ryan never asks me to date him.
He doesn’t tell me he’s better than Ethan.
He doesn’t ask me to trust him.
For months, we’re just friends.
Then one night, about six months later, we have dinner after Dad’s follow-up appointment.
I tell him the truth.
“I was with Ethan for seven years. I’m not ready to trust someone again just because they’re nice to me.”
Ryan nods.
“I’m not asking you to.”
“I might take a long time.”
“Then take a long time.”
I look at him.
“You don’t mind waiting?”
“No.”
For once, waiting doesn’t sound like something someone expects me to do for them.
It’s something someone is willing to do for me.
So I give Ryan a chance.
Two years later, we’re getting married.
It’s a small wedding.
Family. Close friends.
No huge ballroom. No giant screen showing our relationship to everyone in the room.
Dad walks me down the aisle.
Before he gives Ryan my hand, he looks at him.
“Take care of my daughter.”
Ryan nods.
“I will.”
Just before the ceremony begins, I notice someone standing outside.
Ethan.
He doesn’t come in.
He just stands there.
For a second, our eyes meet.
Two years ago, I stood inside a wedding venue and watched him walk away from me.
Now he’s standing outside mine, watching me walk toward someone else.
Ryan takes my hand.
I turn back to him.
And this time, the man standing beside me stays.
