The Girl’s Exit Was Louder Than Silence Chapter 04

The Girl’s Exit Was Louder Than Silence Chapter 04

I froze.

A sudden chill ran through my entire body.

When I checked my phone, I realized they’d already been gone for half an hour.

“That’s ridiculous,” Logan muttered.

“No matter how much he dislikes you, he can’t leave a girl alone outside this late at night.”

“My Uber’s here anyway. I’ll drop you off on the way.”

During the ride home, I sent Dylan a breakup text through iMessage.

He still didn’t reply.

He didn’t even ask whether I was still sitting outside waiting for him.

Maybe I’d been out in the cold too long.

That night, I developed a low-grade fever and spent the entire night drifting in and out of restless sleep.

Early the next morning, Logan called me.

“Ava, why aren’t you here yet?”

“Where did you put the new jerseys that came in a few days ago? I can’t find them.”

Maybe the fever had scrambled my brain.

I gave him the wrong location several times, and he still couldn’t find them.

“We need them pretty urgently. Can you come over?”

“I know you’re not technically part of the team anymore, so I really don’t have the right to ask.”

Logan had always looked out for me.

He’d even made sure I got all the way back to my apartment building the night before.

After thinking it over, I forced myself out of bed.

When I got to the locker room, I finally dug the jerseys out from the corner of a storage locker.

Madison walked in and immediately held out her hands.

“Logan said you could give them to me once you found them.”

“After all, you’re not the team manager anymore. You’re not authorized to be on the court.”

The fever had drained every ounce of energy from me.

I didn’t even have the strength to argue with her.

I simply placed the stack of jerseys into her arms.

Madison clearly hadn’t expected them to be so heavy.

Her arms gave out, and the pile knocked her straight to the floor.

Instead of admitting she’d dropped them, she immediately accused me.

“You did that on purpose, didn’t you?”

“You knew I didn’t have a good grip, and you let go anyway!”

Dylan suddenly rushed in.

All he saw was Madison on the floor accusing me.

“Madison was just trying to help you, and you bullied her?”

I actually laughed from sheer disbelief.

“She lost her balance and fell. What the hell does that have to do with me?”

Madison grabbed Dylan’s arm and spoke softly.

“Don’t blame Ava.”

“I took her position as soon as I got here. Of course she hates me.”

“But I think I twisted my ankle. Can you take me to the hospital?”

Dylan looked up at me.

His eyes were so cold and unfamiliar that for a second, I barely recognized him.

“Someone as petty as you is nothing but trouble for this team!”

A few teammates walked in and saw the scene.

Naturally, they assumed I’d bullied Madison.

In an instant, every pair of eyes turned on me with disgust.

Dylan made the decision right there.

“After regionals next week, Logan can take Madison on the Miami trip instead of you.”

“Consider it compensation.”

“You owe her that.”

Then he scooped Madison into his arms and rushed out without looking back.

I didn’t make a scene.

I didn’t chase after him to explain.

I simply pulled out my phone and texted my dad.

“Cancel the Miami trip I asked you to sponsor for the team.”

Apparently, Dylan still had no idea that the “team perk” they all took for granted had come from my father.

I had never owed any of them a damn thing.
