The Girl’s Exit Was Louder Than Silence Chapter 06
“I thought you were going to Miami with your friends. Why are you canceling it?”
The second I heard his familiar voice, my eyes started to sting.
“They don’t want me to go with them anymore.”
Dad immediately caught the tremor in my voice.
“What happened?”
“Did you break up with that boyfriend of yours?”
“Where are you right now? I’m coming to get you.”
“I have a fever. I’m at the Health Center getting an IV.”
His voice instantly sharpened with worry.
“Someone’s there with you, right?”
“I’m coming now.”
“Okay.”
I hung up.
Logan came back with hot soup.
I quickly wiped my tears away, my voice hoarse.
“I don’t have an appetite. I can’t eat.”
His lips tightened.
“You still need to eat.”
“What if your blood sugar drops and you pass out again?”
Once, when we’d traveled for a game, someone had accidentally ordered one breakfast too few.
I’d been worried one of the players would have to compete on an empty stomach, so I’d gone without eating.
At halftime, I’d been bringing them water when I suddenly collapsed.
Dylan was supposed to be subbed out at the time.
Logan told him to take me to the hospital.
But Dylan refused because he was afraid people would get suspicious about our relationship.
In the end, Logan took me instead.
After the game, Dylan came to the hospital to apologize.
When he saw how pale I looked, he’d actually cried because he felt so guilty.
I’d had a thousand questions I wanted to scream at him.
But seeing his tears had trapped every single one in my throat.
In the end, I’d barely even blamed him.
Snapping back to the present, I reached for the bowl of soup with my left hand.
I hadn’t realized it had just come off the stove.
It was scalding hot.
The pain twisted my face, and Logan quickly took the bowl from me.
My palm burned fiercely.
Even though I’d only held the bowl for a moment, my skin was already bright red.
Logan asked a nurse for burn cream and gently applied it.
“My fault.”
“Once the soup cools down, I’ll hold the bowl for you. You can use the spoon with your left hand.”
I nodded.
“Thanks.”
“Once my dad gets here, you won’t have to keep taking care of me.”
The second the words left my mouth, a sharp voice came from nearby.
“What are you two doing here?”
I turned toward the sound.
Dylan was walking past us, supporting Madison because of her injured ankle.
Logan answered calmly.
“Ava has a fever. I brought her to the Health Center for an IV.”
Instead of calming down, Dylan looked even angrier.
His eyes locked onto me.
“I wasn’t asking you.”
“I was asking Ava.”
I looked up.
That was when I noticed Dylan and Madison’s hands clasped together.
“Logan was just being nice and brought me here.”
“And who I spend time with is my business.”
“It has nothing to do with you.”
I’d already sent him the breakup message.
Whether he wanted to pretend he hadn’t seen it or not didn’t change the fact that we were over.
Dylan was clearly furious.
So he deliberately tried to hurt me.
“You think I’m worried about you?”
“I’m worried Logan’s wasting time here instead of training with the team.”
I gave a bitter smile and lowered my gaze to my swollen, reddened palm.
Logan cut him off.
“Dylan, there’s something I’ve never understood.”
“Why do you have this weird hostility toward Ava?”
