The Betrayed Mafia Wife Takes Bloody Revenge Chapter 03

Room 714

Vivian didn’t want to go home.

Of course she didn’t.

She wanted an audience.

She wanted me to watch her win.

“I booked a suite.”

She looped both arms around Rafe’s neck.

“And I brought that black dress you like.”

Rafe’s eyes changed.

Just slightly.

But I saw it.

I always saw everything.

“Elena,” he said, “go home.”

I looked at him.

“Let me come with you.”

Vivian burst out laughing.

“To the hotel?”

“Yes.”

Even Rafe looked confused.

I swallowed hard and forced my voice smaller.

“I’ll wait downstairs.”

“After you’re done, we can go home together.”

Vivian stared at me.

Then laughed so hard she had to grab Rafe’s shoulder.

“Oh my God.”

“You really are hopeless.”

I smiled weakly.

“I love him.”

That was the story everyone believed.

So I gave it to them.

Rafe stared at me for several seconds.

Something almost like pity moved across his face.

Then satisfaction.

“You really can’t live without me, can you?”

I lowered my eyes.

“No.”

He exhaled.

“Fine.”

The hotel belonged to one of the Cole family’s shell companies.

The night manager knew me.

That made everything easier.

At the front desk, Vivian leaned against Rafe and whispered loudly enough for me to hear:

“She’s really waiting downstairs while you sleep with me?”

Rafe shot her a look.

“Elena is still my wife.”

“In public, you show her respect.”

Vivian pouted.

“Even now?”

“Especially now.”

I almost laughed.

Respect.

That was what he called it.

The desk clerk handed Rafe the key.

Room 714.

I memorized it.

Then I watched the elevator doors close around them.

Vivian pressed herself against him before the doors were fully shut.

Rafe’s hand slid around her waist.

The doors closed.

I waited.

Seven.

The digital display stopped.

My phone buzzed.

MASON: Here.

I returned to the desk.

“Sorry.”

I smiled at the clerk.

“My husband took the key upstairs.”

“I need another one.”

She didn’t hesitate.

Everyone knew Mrs. Cole.

No one asked why Mrs. Cole needed access to her husband’s room.

She slid the second key card across the counter.

A man came through the revolving doors behind me.

Mason.

He was still wearing his black work jacket.

His face was pale from running.

His eyes were not.

“Elena.”

He looked around.

“Where is she?”

I held out the card.

“Seventh floor.”

He didn’t take it immediately.

“With Rafe?”

I hesitated just long enough.

Then nodded.

Mason’s face changed.

“She said she was drinking.”

“She was.”

“With him?”

“Yes.”

His fingers closed around the card.

I watched the tendons in his hand pull tight.

“Mason.”

He looked at me.

“Don’t do anything stupid.”

The words were correct.

My voice was correct.

Everything about me was exactly what it should have been.

A frightened wife.

A concerned friend.

He said nothing.

He walked toward the elevator.

I followed.

Inside, he stared at the glowing number seven.

“Just the two of them?”

I looked confused.

“Yes.”

“She said she had a headache.”

“She asked Rafe to help her upstairs.”

His jaw flexed.

The elevator opened.

Mason stepped out first.

I stayed several paces behind.

Far enough.

He found 714.

The corridor was silent.

He raised the card.

BEEP.

Green light.

The lock clicked open.

For half a second, nothing happened.

Then I heard Vivian laugh.

A low sound from Rafe.

A glass hit the floor.

Mason pushed the door open.

And the screaming started.
