Don Bowed To Me Chapter 07

Elliot stood up, his voice cold.

“Hazel. Leave. You’ve been nothing but an embarrassment to our Family your entire life. You don’t belong at a Marchetti wedding.”

Ethan didn’t hold back.

“You’re jealous.Now you’re just jealous.Get out.”

Melanie tugged at my sleeve, whispering.

“Hazel, just apologize. If they throw you out in front of Don Salvatore’s people, no Family on this coast will ever place you anywhere. You’ll be pouring coffee for the rest of your life.”

I pulled my arm free and turned to face the place.

“So you’re all sure. You want me to leave.”

They didn’t know I’d already confirmed the meeting with Don Salvatore. The location was this wedding.

My mother pointed at the door, her voice shrill.

“Out! I’ll pretend I never had you!”

On stage, Isabella dabbed at her eye.

“Hazel, this day means everything to me. You’ve made it impossible. Please just go.”

Matteo’s face hardened.

“If you’re not willing to accept Isabella’s kindness, and you insist on embarrassing her in front of every Family here, then leave. Now.”

I raised an eyebrow.

“You want me gone? Fine. Just don’t regret it when I walk out that door.”

I stood up cleanly and headed for the exit.

Just then, hurried footsteps came from the entrance of the ballroom.

“Dr. Vitale, wait! She cannot leave!”

Every head in the room whipped around.

It was Don Salvatore.

Stripped of his usual composure, the old man was practically running across the ballroom.

“The bride may leave. The groom may leave. But Dr. Vitale…”

“Dr. Vitale stays.”

Don Salvatore stopped in front of me and inclined his head.

Every member of the family in the ballroom looked completely stunned, as if their world had just been turned upside down.

“Dr. Vitale. Please give me a moment. The Marchetti Family needs you.”
