I Picked A Blind Match Husband — My Adopted Brother Showed Up With A Bomb Chapter 01
The Altar
I’m the only daughter of Don Ferrante — seven brothers raised to kill for me, a father who’d burn the world to keep me safe.
Yet the man I waited two years for is now kneeling at our altar, begging my father to let him marry someone else.
My name is Sera Ferrante.
I have seven brothers, and Luca Renaldi is the third. He’s the one I love most, and the one I told my father I’d marry or marry no one.
That night, my father sat quietly for a long time.
“If my Sera’s made her choice, so be it. Luca’s sharp, steady, the best of them. Once he’s back from Europe, I’ll give you a wedding this family will never forget.”
So I waited.
My brothers teased me nonstop. They said I used to be the little terror who’d burn down the compound for fun, but now I just sat by the window like a statue, watching the road.
I didn’t care. I didn’t want money, territory, power.
I just wanted Luca home safe.
Two years. I’ve been waiting for him for two whole years.
“Miss Sera! He’s back! Luca’s back!”
I shot out of bed toward the front hall, but Rosa blocked my path.
“Miss Sera… go to the chapel.”
Her face is pale and tense, filled with dread.
“Fine.”
I ran barefoot down the stone corridor. I don’t feel the gravel slicing my feet or notice the blood.
The chapel was suffocating.
All six of my other brothers lined up along the wall. They are all silent, and every face is darker than the last.
I stopped dead.
I stop because I see Luca Renaldi kneeling on the freezing chapel floor, soaked through and facing the altar.
My father sits above him, his face hard as iron as rage rolls off him in waves.
Securing the European pipeline was the kind of victory that earned you a seat at the Don’s right hand. It should have meant a toast and a promotion.
So why was he on his knees?
Ferrante law — only those who’ve committed an unforgivable sin kneel here.
“Dad.”
Every eye locked on me.
My father looked at me — fury and heartbreak barely held in check.
“Sera. Why are you here?”
“Luca’s home. Of course I came.” I kept it light. “Why’s he on the floor? Someone help him up.”
Luca flinched at my voice. Glanced at me — once, fast.
His expression is cold and distant, almost as if he is repulsed by me.
He slammed his forehead into stone.
“Don Ferrante. She and the child are innocent. Every sin is mine. I betrayed this family — betrayed Sera. But I can’t let her and the baby suffer for what I’ve done.”
“I’m begging you. Let me have this.”
He slams his forehead against the stone again, and the sound makes me flinch.
Her and the child?
I followed his gaze to the far corner.
A girl in a faded blue dress crept forward. Younger than me. Face white, big doe eyes brimming with tears, clutching a swollen belly.
She dropped to her knees. “Please… let us be together!”
My father says nothing, and the silence becomes unbearable.
Luca hadn’t expected this to be hard. He’d come home a conqueror, having secured the pipeline and earned more for this family than anyone had in a decade.
But he forgot something.
If I hadn’t told my father I would marry Luca or no one at all, I’d have been matched with another family’s heir years ago.
I’d shredded every alliance proposal.
For him.
Everyone in this chapel who knew the truth was staring at me like I was a lit fuse.
Marco lunged forward, fists clenched. I raised one hand. He stopped.
I look at Luca slowly, taking in every detail.
Two years had changed him. He’s leaner and harder now, with a new scar across his jaw.
“Luca secured the pipeline. That’s worth celebrating.” I turned to my father with a smile sweet enough to rot teeth. “Dad, let them up.”
My father lifts one hand.
My smile widened. I looked at her belly.
“Have the wedding next Tuesday. Wouldn’t want the baby arriving before the ceremony.”
My father turned his face away.
Every brother dropped his head.
The only two celebrating were clinging to each other in the middle of the chapel, crying with relief.
Next Tuesday was my birthday. My father had planned for Luca to propose to me that day — a formal announcement to every capo and underboss. The man who’d inherit the keys to the kingdom.
Well. He came back. There’s going to be a wedding. Just not mine.
I meet Luca’s eyes and see nothing but guilt and gratitude. The last thread holding my heart together finally snaps.
“What, did you all go deaf? Congratulate my brother. Now.”
The room flinched. Every smirk, every pitying stare froze solid.
They choked it out one by one:
“C-congratulations, Luca…”
“Best wishes to… the happy couple…”
