The Alpha’s Daughter Chapter 03

“And Selene. She is your own cousin. I told you to take care of her. How could you throw her out? Have someone bring her back at once. Apologize to her. Tell her you were wrong.”

“No,” I said. “You are the one who is wrong. Yes, you gave birth to me. But don’t forget, you had the chance to raise me. Father asked you to choose between the pup and the money. You chose the money without hesitation. That was why he carried me back into the territory.”

“Luna Evangeline was the one who raised and educated me all these years. If I acknowledge you as my mother, then you are my mother. If I don’t, what are you?”

Mara’s face turned from red to white.

She looked as if she had gone mad with rage. “You ungrateful girl. Don’t forget that I gave birth to you. I carried you for ten months and suffered to bring you into this world. Without me, would you have the life you have now?”

“You think you can throw away your birth mother now that you live well? Dream on.”

I looked at the hideous woman in front of me and sneered.

“You also got everything you wanted because you gave birth to me. You sold your daughter for everything you have now. What right do you have to scold me?”

Just looking at her made me feel dirty.

What kind of mother could be so heartless?

Once, when my father nearly lost a war against an ancient werewolf pack, Mara suddenly ran out and shouted that he could send the heroine away in a marriage alliance to stop the bloodshed.

The head of that pack was already over sixty. He was impotent, and he had a habit of sexually torturing women.

Many young women had died at his hands.

And Mara, the heroine’s own mother, wanted to send her daughter to him.

How could someone like that deserve to be called Mother?

For one instant, perhaps I felt the heroine’s grief as my own.

My voice turned cold with hatred.

“Someone, execute with silver this maid here and now.”

Mara screamed. “You wouldn’t dare!”

I took the silver pistol the steward handed me, raised it, and aimed it at the maid.

“I not only dare. I want you to watch.”

Mrs. Harlow burst into terrified sobs. “Mara, save me!”

Mara trembled with rage. “Aurora, if you kill her today, I will never acknowledge you again!”

Before she could finish, I pulled the trigger.

With a silver pistolsilver shot, Mrs. Harlow dropped dead.

The steward looked down coldly and said, “She is dead.”

Mara howled and threw herself over Mrs. Harlow’s body. When she raised her head again, her eyes were full of venom.

“You beast!” She had lost all reason and began cursing. “You little whore. I should never have given birth to you!”

“If I had known what you would become, I would have drowned you in the toilet the day you were born!”

“Who did you say you would drown in the toilet?”

Mara and I turned at the same time.

Luna Evangeline stood behind us, her face stern and regal, surrounded by her people.

Mara went deathly pale. Her lips trembled, and she could not speak.

Luna Evangeline was furious. “Who do you think you are, speaking of drowning the Alpha’s daughter?”

“You threatened the blood of the Blackwood Pack. Are you not afraid to die?”

Mara was so frightened she did not dare move. She collapsed to the floor, weeping until snot and tears covered her face.

“I was wrong. I should not have said that. Aurora went too far. She killed the maid who had served me the longest. I was too heartbroken.”

“Aurora,” Luna Evangeline asked me, “how do you think this should be handled?”

I knew Luna Evangeline had long known that Mara bullied the heroine in secret. She had tried many times to deal with Mara, but the heroine always begged for mercy.

To Mara, this question became another test.

If the heroine were here, she might beg for mercy again.

But I was the one inside this body now.

During my silence, hope lit in Mara’s eyes.

“Aurora, Mama was wrong today. I will never be like this again. Mama will treat you well from now on. I am your birth mother. If I hadn’t been so angry today, how could I ever hurt you?”

Again, those words.

Every time she said them before, the heroine softened.

Mara knew the heroine could not bear to abandon her birth mother.

But I had nothing I could not bear to abandon.

I looked at Luna Evangeline and spoke calmly.

“I was too foolish before. Mother, although you did not give birth to me, you raised me with care. I only acknowledge you as my mother.”

“As for everyone else, if they break the rules, they should be dealt with according to the rules.”

The smug smile that had besilver pistol to rise on Mara’s face froze instantly.
