Abandon You Choose Dragon Chapter 07
By tribal custom, the groom wasn’t required to attend the blessing ceremony.
He was supposed to wait until the bride received her blessing, then come to the sanctuary to collect her.
But Chloe had clung to him that morning—”Ash, I’m scared”—so he’d come along.
He walked to the old oak tree, far from the sanctuary.
It was too lively over there.
So lively it made him uneasy.
The choosing platform. The wedding gown. The Moon God’s blessing. All of it should have been his and mine.
Now that Iris had refused the contract, it belonged to him and another female.
No matter how he looked at it, nothing about this was right.
He leaned against the trunk. It took three tries to get the lighter to catch.
Smoke hit his throat and he coughed twice.
His mind drifted to what would happen when they got back to the city.
The tribal ceremony was the tribal ceremony, but the real wedding had to be done properly.
Iris had been removed from the Clan Register, but he’d make sure she knew—everything she deserved, she’d still get.
He’d throw a better wedding. Make up for every bit of pain she’d endured these past few days.
So he needed to sit down and think. Which venue. What style of gown. Which officiant.
Ash took another drag and tilted his head back, letting the smoke unspool into the wind.
He’d been running nonstop for two days. Booking the venue, hiring the band…
In between, he’d sent me a few messages. Where are you? Have you eaten?
I hadn’t replied to any of them.
He hadn’t worried much. Just assumed I was sulking. Figured I’d come around in a day or two.
Until that scarred hand appeared before the Moon God’s statue.
Only then did it hit him—he hadn’t seen me in two full days.
The cigarette burned down to the halfway mark. Ash fell on his shoe and singed it.
“Ash…”
My mother appeared suddenly beside him.
She swiped at her eyes with the back of her hand. “I need to talk to you.”
