The Don’s Heiress Won’t Choose Him Again Chapter 08

The priest had to repeat himself. “Roman Castellano, do you take Serafina Voss to be your wedded wife?”

The smile on Serafina’s face went brittle. She glanced toward me with a look that could set the pews on fire.

Roman jerked back to attention and forced the words out through his teeth. “I do.”

I might have kept my eyes on the altar too long, because Dominic stubbornly tightened his hand around mine.

Ever since I’d made my feelings clear, his possessiveness had only grown.

“Regretting it?”

I shook my head without hesitation. “I just wanted to see how happy Roman looks now that he’s got what he schemed so hard for. Turns out—not very.”

Dominic said nothing. Then he suddenly leaned in and kissed me. “Stop looking at him. Look at me.”

I blinked, a little embarrassed. “What are you doing?”

I hadn’t noticed—everything we did was being watched from the altar.

The ceremony ended. Roman strode toward the changing room, restlessness dark in his eyes.

His wedding with Serafina had been what he’d wanted for so long. Why wasn’t he happy? Why did his mind keep drifting back to the memory of Valentina marrying him in his previous life?

Just then, voices drifted out from the bride’s dressing room next door.

Roman walked over. Before he could open the door, he heard them clearly.

“Sera, now that you’ve got Roman, you have to hold onto him. All that trouble—hiring the shooters, staging the disappearance—it can’t be for nothing!”

Roman froze. His hand trembled slightly.

Serafina’s voice came from inside. “Don’t worry, Mama. I did all of it so Roman would only love me. So he’d never see that Valentina again. And I did it. It’s fine.”

The door was wrenched open. Roman stood there like the angel of death, murderous rage radiating off him.

He stared at the two women, his eyes boring into them. “Say that again! All of it was staged by you? None of it had anything to do with Valentina?”

Panic flooded Serafina’s eyes. “No, no—Roman, I—”

Before she could finish, his hand was around her throat. “Answer me!”

Serafina’s eyes filled with terror. “Roman, I did it because I love you. Do you believe me? Please?”

“I didn’t mean any harm! I love you, that’s why I did it!”

Roman slapped her hard across the face, his face like iron. “You bitch.”

He turned to leave. Serafina threw herself in his way. “Roman, where are you going?”

“Our wedding isn’t finished! What am I supposed to do if you leave?”

Roman laughed coldly. “Get out of my way. You had the nerve to lie to me, so take the consequences. The wedding is off.”

The two women panicked, grabbing at his hands. “Roman, please, I’m begging you, don’t go—”

Roman shoved them away hard.

He looked like something had been gutted out of him. He leaned back against the wall and closed his eyes.

Valentina had shown him that folder. The shooting, the disappearance—all Serafina’s doing.

He’d called it fake. He’d said Valentina was smearing an innocent woman.

But now—Serafina had admitted it herself.

Every word in that folder had been true.

Roman’s eyes snapped open. He needed to find Valentina. He needed to explain.

He’d been deceived by this woman!

But when he ran back out, Valentina and Dominic were already gone.

He grabbed a waiter, his voice savage. “Where did they go?”

“They… they said they were going on a trip. They left early.”
