The Heiress’s Revenge Chapter 09
Wedding day. Wentworth Manor drowned in thousands of white roses and Ecuadorian baby’s breath. Custom crystal lights strung along the path to the main house. Dreamlike. Guests everywhere. Laughter. Chatter.
My father’s face was ashen. He stood at my door. “Are you marrying or not? You know I can’t afford this humiliation.” Third time he’d asked me today.
“Your grandfather’s flight lands tonight. If he gets back before—”
“Someone’s coming for me.” I cut him off.
In the mirror, I smoothed the ivory custom gown. Simple satin, embroidered with the family crest in silver thread. The long train pooled like cloud and mist. Diamond necklace glittering cold at my collarbone.
Commotion downstairs. I walked to the window. Beyond the manor gates, a line of luxury cars pulling in.
Greyson stepped out first. Handsome as ever. Expressionless.
Behind him, Jasper. Dax.
They walked into the main hall. The guests’ murmurs dipped, then rose louder.
“They really came…” “So Rockwell’s acknowledging it?” “The Wentworth heiress has some serious skills…”
Jasper leaned half a step closer to Greyson. “You’re really going this far? Humiliating her publicly?”
Greyson adjusted his cuff. Voice flat. “She likes forcing people to show their hand. Today I’ll teach her. Some stages you build, you perform on alone.”
Downstairs was chaos. Upstairs, cold quiet.
Kieran slipped into my room, voice urgent. “Greyson’s got three major outlets waiting outside. Plus influencers. Cameras already set up. He’s planning to give a speech during the ceremony. Publicly humiliate you. Accuse you of using emotion and media to force the marriage. Then ‘graciously’ walk away. Make you a national joke. Media’s catching all of it.”
He avoided my eyes. “Text him now. Back down. Before you become… a viral joke.” A pause. “Do it for Skylar’s sake. Wentworth humiliated means she gets dragged into it too.”
Then he left.
For a second, I thought he’d grown a conscience. But no. That last line was the whole point.
Give him a stage? I never planned to give him the chance.
I stood. Walked downstairs.
