The Heiress’s Revenge Chapter 18

The Heiress’s Revenge Chapter 18

Three months later. The Dax family sold off assets to cover debts. Declared bankruptcy.

The Rockwells were the hardest. The worst three months, Wentworth Group’s stock dropped over fifteen percent in a single day.

Grandfather summoned me back to the manor. “Thea. Pull back.” He handed me a whiskey. The ice sphere caught the light. Cold. “Pull back. Rockwell has a century of foundation. Head-on collision means mutual destruction.”

I didn’t take the glass. Just looked at him. “Grandfather.” My voice was soft. “You knew about my mother’s accident. Didn’t you?”

His hand paused on the bottle. “If I hadn’t received that recording from you—would I have sent him in?”

“Since you chose to close your eyes back then, I’m asking you now. Close them. For what I’m about to do.”

A long silence. Grandfather set down the bottle. Looked at me. “You’re more ruthless than your father.” He lifted his own whiskey. Took a sip. “That Greyson boy… these past months. Looked like he was pressing you from every side. But he always left room.” He paused. The edge of his smile deepened. Cold. “Seems his feelings for you run deep. Couldn’t bring himself to truly strike.”

I looked down at the amber liquid in my glass. “Sentiment. His greatest weakness.”

Grandfather laughed. “And you, Thea? Step by step. To this position.” He set down his glass. “How much is calculation? And how much… is sheer stubborn fury?”
