I Married The Don 3 Years While He Kept His Mistress 7 Years Chapter 06

We left without resolution.

Dinner never happened.

Grandma had me sit on the little stool by her feet, like she used to when I was younger.

She ran a comb through my hair, slow and steady.

“Aurora.”

“When you first came to the Greco house, I told Lorenzo plainly—if he hadn’t settled down by the time he turned twenty-eight, he would marry you.”

“You were free to choose. He was too.”

“But in the end, you both said yes. Because you wanted to. And he… he wanted to too.”

“Do you understand what I’m saying?”

I nodded slowly, thinking it over.

Before I could answer, my phone buzzed. A message from Chiara.

[Little Donna~ my hand’s hurt, the Don told me to rest a few days. Could you put a few boxes of condoms in the bedroom nightstand for us?~]

My body went stiff.

So that’s why she knew his bedroom so well. Knew exactly what was in the third drawer of his closet.

My fingers were shaking as I opened the chat. She’d sent more.

[Oh right, don’t forget to put some in the car too. Sometimes things happen and we can’t stop to buy more.]

[Get a few boxes—we go through them pretty fast…]

[You probably don’t know much about this stuff yet. Check the left drawer in the study—there should be empty boxes there. Just get the same kind~]

I knew I should ignore her. I’d already decided on the divorce.

But I couldn’t help myself.

[Chiara. You don’t even have a real place in this family. What exactly are you so proud of?]

She replied instantly.

[Pfft~ If we’re really comparing, little Donna, you’re the one with the title but an empty bed, aren’t you?]

[Did you know—on your wedding night, Lorenzo tried to touch you, but you were about as exciting as a dead fish? So he made up an excuse to go out for a smoke. And came straight to me.]

[Don’t be so harsh~ Things change. I won’t be a secretary forever.]

I thought back to that night.

Lorenzo and I were still so polite with each other back then. So distant.

He touched every part of me, and I couldn’t stop trembling.

But I didn’t know what I was doing. All I could do was clench my teeth and bear it.

And Lorenzo—he said he couldn’t bear to hurt me, that he needed a cigarette to cool down.

I stared at nothing, whispering to myself:

“Do men really separate love and sex like that?”

Grandma was old, but her eyes missed nothing.

She saw what was on my phone screen. Her face didn’t change at all.

She just picked up the landline beside her, calm as could be, and dialed a number.

Forty minutes later.

Chiara was “invited” to the old house. Brought to the front gate.

She knelt on the stone pavement, swaying, her face streaked with tears, repeating the same words over and over:

“I won’t do it again… please… I swear I won’t do it again…”
