My Alpha Husband Forgot I Was The Blackridge Reaper Chapter 06
I Take Back What Is Mine
The next morning, I do three things.
Every one of them follows Blackridge law.
Every one of them hits Adrian exactly where it hurts.
First, I go to the estate’s financial office myself.
Mr. Carter nearly falls out of his chair when he sees me.
He shoots to his feet and lowers his head.
“Miss Halston?”
“Bring me the ledgers.”
His face tightens.
“But Mr. Hale said—”
“I gave you an order.”
Mr. Carter flinches.
He pulls the ledgers from the safe and places them in my hands.
“Yes, Miss Halston.”
I open the first one in front of him.
“Starting today, I control every account tied to the Halston Trust.”
“No money leaves without my signature.”
“Adrian Hale’s authorization is revoked.”
Mr. Carter glances at me, then drops to one knee.
“I’ll change the access codes immediately.”
My inheritance belongs to me.
The properties belong to me.
Under Blackridge law, Adrian has no claim to either.
Second, I enforce the rules of my estate.
Ivy is not a Halston, and she holds no rank in my household.
She is only Adrian’s foster sister—a guest who has forgotten her place.
Her allowance stops.
The servants assigned to her return to their former duties.
The SUV she has been using goes back into my garage.
My head steward hesitates before asking, “What if Miss Lane causes trouble, Miss Halston?”
“The household rules are posted beside the front doors,” I say. “She can read.”
Third, I deal with the two Omega servants who held Emma down while Ivy whipped her.
Adrian brought them here from the Hale estate.
They laid hands on someone under my protection while standing on Halston land.
By pack law, I send them back to the Hales and permanently bar them from my estate.
They howl and beg as my guards drag them through the front gates.
Every wolf on the grounds sees them go.
That evening, Adrian storms into my study.
“What is this supposed to mean?”
I do not look up from the order I am signing.
“I control my own inheritance, and I decide what happens in my own estate.”
I turn the page.
“Tell me which pack law I broke.”
Adrian falls silent.
He cannot name a single one.
His scent changes first.
The anger fades, and his voice softens.
“Scarlett, we’re married. There’s no reason to treat each other like enemies.”
“Adrian Hale.”
I use his full name.
His smile disappears.
“I married you because my father said you were an honorable male. I tolerated Ivy because my mother asked me to give people a chance.”
I set down my pen and look at him.
“But being kind does not mean being spineless.”
I rise and walk toward him.
He is half a head taller than me.
This time, his gaze drops first.
“Today, I only took back control of my accounts.”
I stop in front of him.
“Let anyone touch one of mine again—”
I wait one beat.
“And I will take back a lot more than the ledgers.”
Adrian swallows.
He opens his mouth, but nothing comes out.
Then he turns and leaves.
His footsteps fade quickly down the hall.
Emma, pale beneath her bandages, steps out of the adjoining room.
“Miss Halston, he looked scared.”
“He wasn’t scared.”
I return to my desk.
“He was deciding how to come after me.”
“What will you do, Miss Halston?”
“Let him think.”
I pick up my pen and continue writing.
“We’ll deal with whatever he comes up with.”
That night, the sound of breaking china comes from the east wing.
One piece after another shatters against the walls.
Ivy has no allowance, no personal servants, and no car.
All she can do is stand there and rage.
I listen to the crashes and finish the final line of my order.
