My Masturbation Recording Was Listened To 146 Times By The Ice Hockey Hunk Chapter 06

I was in the studio doing my audition when Zach’s calls kept lighting up my phone screen.

For a split second I wanted to answer. But then I remembered, “Stop sending me voice notes,” and anger welled right back up inside me.

I declined his call and texted him coldly: Don’t call me anymore.

I laid my phone facedown on the desk and ignored it. If he wanted distance, I could give him more distance than he asked for.

The audition wrapped close to nine p.m. Liam said it was unsafe for me to walk back alone after dark and offered to walk me home.

I had been about to turn him down. I checked my phone, and Zach had sent not a single message. That silence made me even angrier.

“Okay. Thank you,” I slung my backpack over my shoulder.

On the walk back Liam kept the conversation light. He told me my audition had gone really well, and all station members agreed my voice suited the midnight slot perfectly. I gave halfhearted replies, my thoughts stuck entirely on Zach.

Once I used to take twenty minutes to reply, and he would ring me terrified something bad had happened. Now I told him not to call, and he really vanished without a word. It drove me crazy.

We reached the entrance of my apartment complex, and I froze midstep.

Zach stood alone in the shadow cast by a streetlamp. One hand held a cake box, his other hand hidden behind his back.

The cream inside the cake box had melted and lost its shape under the high temperature. Hidden behind it was a bouquet of red roses, the corners of the wrapping paper faintly peeking out.

He had been waiting for a very long time.

Zach lifted his gaze. First his eyes landed on me, then they slowly shifted over toward Liam.

There was nothing readable on his face — no rage, no sneers, just an eerie hollow blankness. The temperature seemed to drop all at once.

“Who’s this?” Zach’s tone was flat and sharp.

“The audition ran late. I just wanted to make sure Serena got home safely,” Liam replied, keeping his composure.

Zach’s jawline clenched hard.

“Your radio station really offers fullservice hospitality,” Zach let out a bitter little laugh. “Walking girls home. What’s next, midnightsnack deliveries?”

My temples throbbed. “Zach, cut this out. He was just walking me home.”

Zach’s gaze fell back to the melting cake. He pushed the flower bouquet further behind his back, as if the gift was suddenly something he could not bear to offer.

Liam spotted the flowers. He said calmly, “Looks like I showed up at a bad time.”

Afraid they would get into a fight, I hurried to speak. “Thanks for walking me back, Liam. You should head home.”

Liam glanced between Zach and me and gave a faint smile. “Sure. See you at the station tomorrow.”

Once Liam was gone the tension did not fade.

Zach let out a low, hostile chuckle.

“Serena, you’ve been so busy lately.”
