Too Late He Wanted Me Back Chapter 06

Francesca’s words stung like a physical blow, striking Jaylen in the face.

Jaylen flew into a rage. “Shut up! No one asked for your opinion on my relationship with Sera!”

With that, he picked Cyenne up. She was curled on the floor, her head bleeding from Francesca’s blows, and he walked away without looking back once.

The moment Jaylen was gone, Maeve summoned the household staff. They marched upstairs with tools in their hands, looking menacing.

“Seraphina,” Maeve snarled coldly, “Jay is gone, and there’s no one left to protect you. You killed Tino, and I’ll never let you get away with it. Starting today, I’ll make every single day you spend in this house a living hell.”

With those words, Maeve signaled the household staff with a sharp tilt of her chin.

The household staff rushed forward at once and tied Seraphina up.

They dragged her downstairs, and Maeve kicked her hard into the swimming pool. Grabbing Seraphina by the hair, she shoved her head under the water without mercy. “Tino drowned. Do you have any idea how painful that is? Of course you don’t. That’s fine. I’ll make sure you feel it today!”

Ice-cold water flooded her lungs, and a searing pain spread through Seraphina’s entire body.

It was freezing, suffocating, and unbearable.

Had Santino suffered like this in his final moments? When he was struggling in the ocean, had he called out for his mother?

Just as Seraphina was about to black out from the lack of air, Maeve yanked her head back up by her hair. Seraphina gasped for air instinctively, but the second she caught her breath, Maeve shoved her head back under the water.

“Seraphina, you know how to swim. Why didn’t you jump into the ocean to save Tino?” Maeve screamed in a heartbroken fury. “Don’t play games with me. I know the truth. You wanted to get back at Jay. You hated him for lying to you. You hated that he loves Cyenne, so you killed his only child to hurt him.”

A bitter, helpless laugh escaped Seraphina’s throat when she heard that.

Everyone else could see the truth clearly. Cyenne was the one Jaylen truly loved.

Only Jaylen continued to lie to himself, stubbornly insisting that he only felt like a brother to her.

Maeve flew into a cruel rage, intentionally torturing Seraphina. Every time Seraphina was about to pass out, Maeve would yank her head above the water, giving her just a second or two of air to keep her alive. Then she would shove her back under again, forcing her to endure an agony worse than death.

This cycle repeated dozens of times. But when Maeve pressed Seraphina’s head down once more, the water in the pool suddenly turned red.

“Her lungs are bleeding!” someone shouted. “All that drowning must have caused internal damage. She needs to go to the hospital right now, or she’ll die!”

Only then did Maeve stop.

By that point, Seraphina had already lost consciousness completely.

When she finally woke up, she was lying in a hospital bed.

Jaylen was sitting beside her. He had dark circles under his eyes and his hair was a mess. The man who usually looked so powerful and untouchable now looked haggard and exhausted.

“Sera, you’re finally awake.” A faint glimmer of light returned to his dull eyes when he saw Seraphina woke up. He took her hand in a tight grip, his voice thick with regret. “I’m so sorry. This is all my fault. I failed to protect you.

“I promise you, I’ve punished every household staff who touched you. I also gave my mother a stern warning. She’ll never hurt you or torment you ever again.”

Seraphina’s heart turned cold. She had nearly died, yet Jaylen had done nothing more than give his mother a brief reprimand. He hadn’t even attempted to tell the truth.

When it came to letting her down, Jaylen never failed to disappoint.

“Okay.” Seraphina closed her eyes, too exhausted to say anything else.

Her icy indifference made Jaylen’s chest tighten with a heavy sense of unease.

Francesca’s earlier shouts suddenly echoed in his mind. “Have you noticed how Sera has been ignoring you lately? She sees right through you. She has completely given up on you.”

Jaylen clenched his fists, overcome by a deep sense of anxiety. He reached for Seraphina’s hand and pleaded, “Sera, I’ve been by your side for a whole day and night without eating a single thing. My stomach is starting to hurt again. It’s a sharp, throbbing pain. Could you make me some chicken soup?”

At that moment, Seraphina’s left leg was in a heavy cast and she had an IV tube in her arm. Covered in bruises and cuts, there was hardly a part of her body left uninjured.

Jaylen’s eyes widened as the reality of her condition finally hit him, and he quickly backtracked. “Sera, you don’t have to do anything. Just tell me what to do. Things are going to change. From now on, I’ll be the one taking care of you. Alright?”

Seraphina still wouldn’t look at him. She coldly turned her back to him. “You have the recipe. Make it yourself.”
