Too Late He Wanted Me Back Chapter 12

After thinking through the whole sequence of events, Jaylen suddenly felt a bone-chilling coldness creep up his back.

Because a month ago, his son Santino had not died in an accident yet.

That meant Seraphina had already wanted to divorce him even before their son’s death?

“Did you handle my divorce certificate?” Jaylen turned his head and looked coldly at the staff member he had run into at the entrance. Just moments ago, he had been furious beyond measure, but now he had suddenly calmed down. Yet that calmness was even more frightening.

The staff member nodded. That one small motion alone was enough to scare him into a cold sweat.

Jaylen’s voice was laced with frost, as if it were coming from another dimension: “Then I’d like to ask, when did Seraphina submit the divorce application to the courthouse?”

“A month ago,” the staff member answered truthfully. “There’s a divorce cooling-off period now, so divorce certificates aren’t issued that easily. During the cooling-off period, either spouse can come in and withdraw the application, but neither of you ever came…”

Jaylen nearly ground his white teeth to pieces.

He had wanted to come, but he had no idea Seraphina had submitted a divorce application, so how was he supposed to come?

At this point, losing his temper was useless.

The top priority now was to find Seraphina as quickly as possible.

After all, only by finding Seraphina could he clear up the misunderstanding, and only then would the two of them have a chance to remarry.

So Jaylen immediately called a contact he knew at the courthouse: “I need the surveillance footage from the courthouse entrance. Pull it for me right now!”

Getting the footage was not difficult, and his contact quickly took care of it for him.

But when Jaylen saw the footage, he froze again.

Because the surveillance cameras showed that Seraphina had gotten into a military jeep this morning!

“How did Sera end up involved with the military department?” Jaylen frowned deeply. “What exactly has she been hiding from me all this time?”

Once the military department was involved, things became extremely troublesome.

After all, if Seraphina had simply run away, then no matter how far she went, Jaylen was confident he could find her and bring her back.

But if Seraphina had been taken away by the military department, how was Jaylen supposed to find her?

No matter how wealthy or powerful the Canyer family was, they still had no way to demand a person from the military department.

“Mr. Canyer, could the people who picked up Mrs. Canyer in the jeep have been from NASA?” Jaylen’s assistant analyzed quietly. “When some of NASA’s classified projects are launched, the government really does arrange for the military department to get involved and escort important scientists and engineers to secret bases.”

“Mrs. Canyer is a NASA engineer. It’s very possible that she joined one of NASA’s classified projects and was picked up in a vehicle sent by the military department.”

“That makes sense.” The tight furrow in Jaylen’s brow finally eased. “If you hadn’t said that, I almost would have forgotten that Sera is an outstanding engineer. She even helped NASA build rockets.”

As he said this, Jaylen suddenly felt a painful tightness in his chest.

Seraphina had clearly always been such an exceptional person. People said girls were not suited for science, yet in high school she had chosen science without the slightest hesitation. Then she had studied hard night after night, and in the end she had gotten into college with an outstanding score of 1,537.

After the college entrance exams, she entered MIT’s Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics, majoring in both aircraft design and aerospace systems. Even in college, she had never slackened in the slightest. Every day, aside from attending classes, she spent her time in the library. She was so outstanding that even before graduation, NASA had already hired her in advance.

She had clearly been such an outstanding, radiant person.

So why was it that after being together for so many years, he had never noticed the things that made her shine?

The woman he had married was a powerhouse who could build rockets!

The more Jaylen thought about it, the more ashamed he felt. He had clearly married the best, most exceptional girl in the world, and yet he had still ruined everything.

For the sake of a liar like Cyenne, he had lost Seraphina, whose whole heart and eyes had been filled with him!

At that moment, Jaylen felt nothing but regret!

But he did not sink into despair because of it. Jaylen was the Canyer family’s eldest legitimate son. He had been raised from childhood as the family’s heir, and the words “admit defeat” did not exist in his dictionary.

Even now, though Seraphina had left him in utter disappointment, he was still confident that he could win her back.

So Jaylen quickly pulled himself together. He arranged a banquet and invited NASA’s director, hoping to pry Seraphina’s whereabouts out of him.

But the project Seraphina had joined was a state-level classified project. Even NASA’s director did not dare reveal her whereabouts lightly.

So although Jaylen invited him again and again, NASA’s director refused to attend the banquet.

With no other choice, Jaylen had to go visit him in person.

NASA’s director knew what Jaylen wanted, so he kept hiding behind claims of illness and refused to see him. But as the saying went, you can dodge the first day, but not the fifteenth. Jaylen was determined too. If the director refused to see him, then he would go to NASA every day and wait for him there. After a whole week of staking him out, he finally caught him.

“Mr. Canyer, please stop making things difficult for me,” the director said bitterly. “I truly don’t know where Seraphina went. The project she joined is classified at too high a level. Even I am not qualified to know.”

Jaylen smiled. “Director, we’re all on the same side here, so there’s no need to play Tai Chi with me.”

“I know that with this kind of classified project, you would never leak even the slightest bit of information to outsiders. So how about this? Let’s approach it from another angle. Projects need funding, don’t they? Especially aerospace projects. The amount of money needed for those is enormous.”

“And I just so happen to be a very patriotic young business talent. I’d like to invest 200,000,000,000 in the classified project my wife joined, to help my wife build our country. Director, will you give me that opportunity?”
