He Let Me Bleed So I Let Him Go Chapter 32
Elena stood at Luca’s side, her expression serene.
“You and I are done. Why would I waste my energy trying to get back at you?”
“I know exactly what kind of man Luca is, and I know what he’s done. I’m not handing my life over to him. I’m simply agreeing to get to know him.”
“I have my own work, my own money, and my own home. Whether I end up with him or not, I will never again need to rely on any Family just to survive.”
“I want a partner who respects those choices. So far, Luca has. So I’m giving him a chance.”
Luca looked down at her, his eyes full of open admiration.
“I have you to thank for this,” he said to Dante. “If it weren’t for you, I never would have met a woman who could rebuild a skyscraper and rebuild her own life with the same strength.”
Dante finally snapped.
He lunged forward, swinging a punch at Luca.
Two Bellandi bodyguards materialized from the shadows of the hallway and caught his arms.
Dante struggled, but the injury at his waist had robbed him of his strength.
The guards shoved him back, past the threshold of the building’s protected space.
Elena stood in the doorway, looking at him one last time.
“Let it end here, Dante.”
“Don’t make me hate you any more than I already do.”
She took Luca’s hand and turned back into the apartment.
The door closed behind them.
Dante stood in the hallway, watching as the last sliver of light vanished from beneath the door.
He finally understood. When he had held all the power, he could have given Elena anything.
And he had let her bleed alone on the pavement.
Now, he was willing to give up everything.
And she no longer needed any of it.
A metallic sweetness rose in his throat.
Dante braced a hand against the wall, coughed up a spray of blood, and slowly slid to the floor.
His wound had torn open again.
In a low, broken whisper, he called her name.
No one opened the door.
Some people, once you lose them, are gone forever.
