Their Favoritism Resulted In A Cruel Outcome Chapter 25
“James, Luke, Henry.”
“Have you forgotten? I spent twenty-six years in foster homes. I suffered so much.”
“It was Willa who took my place.”
“I only wanted back the life that was supposed to be mine. What did I do wrong?”
At last, James opened his eyes.
He looked at her through the glass.
“Willa never took your place.”
“She was only a baby when she was brought home, too.”
“She didn’t know who she was, and she didn’t know where you were.”
“The life she had wasn’t stolen.”
“It was a life we gave her.”
James smoothed a crease from the leather of the shoe.
“When you came home, she gave up her room, her jewelry, and her property.”
“She owed you nothing.”
“The people who owed you were the nurse who switched you and us, for not finding you sooner.”
“To ease our own guilt, we put the entire price of making things right with you onto her.”
“We kept asking her to step back, to endure it, to be the stable one.”
“And in the end, we even put her life in your hands.”
Everyone in the room heard him.
Blair shook her head hard.
“That’s not true.”
“If she hadn’t existed, Connor would have loved me.”
Connor, who had been silent all this time, lifted his head.
“No, I wouldn’t have.”
Blair’s sobs cut off.
