He Chose Her Over Me So I Chose Myself Chapter 07
On the morning of the wedding, everyone in the house was still talking about the celebration dinner from the night before.
My mother was flipping through media photos, my father was praising Camille’s poised speech, and no one asked how the bride was doing.
I picked up the small bag I had packed days ago.
“I’m heading to the breakfast room first to get ready.”
Grant didn’t even look up. He was still organizing links to Camille’s press coverage.
“You go ahead. I’ll be there later.”
“Okay.”
I walked out of the Mercer house without looking back.
A cab took me to the rental agency. Half an hour later, I was driving a car I had reserved onto the highway, the road signs for Providence drawing closer and closer.
An hour later, I pulled into a service plaza and opened my laptop.
The email had been written in advance. Every guest, every family member, and the entire wedding planning team was on the recipient list.
“Dear guests, the wedding scheduled for today has been canceled due to the groom’s fundamental confusion regarding the bride’s identity. Evidence is attached. Best wishes to Miss Camille on her celebration dinner.”
Attached were the Find and Replace history from the vows document and the best man’s comment telling Grant to delete the Oxford memories.
I clicked Send, took the SIM card out of my phone, snapped it in half, and threw it in the trash.
Even my name had only ever been a replacement to him.
By the time I reached Providence, my roommate was already waiting for me outside the apartment building. She ran over and hugged me.
“Welcome home.”
At the same time, the breakfast room sat empty.
Guests’ phones began buzzing one after another. Grant finally opened his email and saw the message.
The blood drained from his face.
