He Chose Her Over Me So I Chose Myself Chapter 15
Grant’s lips moved, but in the end, he said nothing.
His silence was answer enough.
I didn’t wait for anything more. I turned, went back into the studio, and shut the door on them.
The grinder began to spin. I picked up an unfinished piece of blue glass. The moment I brought it to the wheel, the door opened abruptly.
Camille stood there in a sharply tailored suit.
She looked over the workbench and asked, “You finally beat me for once. Are you pleased with yourself?”
I stopped what I was doing. “What do you mean?”
“The day the wedding was canceled, I told Grant how I felt.”
The grinder hummed softly.
Camille stared at me, waiting for me to lose my composure.
“I told him I was willing to be with him. But he turned me down. He said he had to find you.”
I did freeze for a moment.
That was the answer Grant had wanted for years. Once, if Camille had only looked back, he would have dropped me without a second thought.
“This past month, he’s used every connection he has. He even hired a private investigator before he finally found out you were in Providence.”
Camille stepped closer, bitterness in her voice.
“He put you ahead of me for once. June, does that make you happy?”
I turned off the grinder and set the glass back on its pad.
“There’s nothing to be happy about.”
She frowned, as if she couldn’t understand.
I looked at her calmly.
“For more than twenty years, I lived in your shadow. I waited for our parents to choose me. I waited for Grant to choose me. Every time I lost to you, I thought it meant I just wasn’t good enough.”
“But I don’t need that anymore.”
Something shifted in Camille’s face.
“If all it took was one player leaving the game for him to glance my way, then that kind of choice means nothing.”
