He Chose Her Over Me So I Chose Myself Chapter 16
“Go home, Camille.”
I turned the grinder back on.
“Go live your own life. I don’t want to compete with you anymore. I have glass here, and light. That’s enough.”
She stared at me for a few seconds, then let out a cold laugh. “You still can’t beat me.”
Then she turned and walked away.
Outside, Grant straightened from where he had been leaning against the wall and held out a document.
“The Beacon Hill house is fully in your name now.” He flipped urgently to the signature page. “It’s all yours. You don’t have to choose anymore.”
Seeing my name on the papers made me falter for just an instant.
I had once imagined the main floor flooded with sunlight, imagined myself drinking coffee by the window while waiting for him to come home.
But that belonged to someone else’s life now.
I closed the file and pushed it back into his hands.
“I don’t want it.”
“June—”
“Anything taken back from Camille and handed to me afterward, I don’t want.”
Grant was about to speak again when footsteps sounded in the corridor.
Eli appeared with his brother, both carrying a toolbox for installing stained-glass panels.
He didn’t ask about the tension in front of him. He only stopped at the door and lifted the tape measure in his hand.
“You said we were putting in the window today. Is now a good time?”
I stepped aside to let them in, and for the first time, that simple question felt unbearably gentle.
“Of course.”
They walked naturally into my world.
Grant was left outside alone, still clutching property papers that had come too late.
