He Chose Her Over Me So I Chose Myself Chapter 25

He Chose Her Over Me So I Chose Myself Chapter 25

“Are you sure? Those are your adoptive parents.”

I looked at the girl in the video, smiling so hard to make herself lovable.

“That’s why I’ve already given them more than twenty years of chances.”

The next morning, the fundraising page was still up.

But my adoptive mother called from a different number.

“It’s just an old family video. What exactly do you mean by sending a lawyer after us over this?”

“It means exactly what the notice says.”

“Do you know how many children this project has helped through the foundation? Are you really going to destroy it over some family matter?”

Once again, she piled the weight of everyone else onto my shoulders, waiting for me to bow my head the way I used to.

I didn’t argue. I just clicked Send on my computer.

The second email went to every single member of the foundation’s board. It had only two attachments: proof that the revocation notice had been served, and a screenshot of the new page’s publication time from the night before.

“I’m not asking the foundation to stop doing charity work,” I said into the phone.

“I’m only asking you to stop using me.”

My adoptive mother’s breathing hitched.

My adoptive father took the phone from her.

“You think sending this to the board will force us to admit we were wrong?”

Just then, a message popped up from my lawyer.

“The board wants to call an emergency meeting. They want you present.”

I ended the call with my father.

“It’s not about admitting fault.”

“It’s about giving back something that was never yours to begin with.”
