At My Baby Shower He Celebrated Another Woman’s Child Chapter 28

Before the first snow, the divorce was finalized.

Every cent of my share of our joint assets was returned to me.

The sale of the seaside property went through without a hitch.

Graham waived any dispute over the assets. He asked for only one thing.

He wanted to keep the engagement ring.

My lawyer asked if I agreed.

“Yes.”

“It was something I gave back to him anyway.”

When I signed the last page and walked out of the courthouse, light snow was drifting from the sky.

June opened an umbrella over my head, every rib intact, sheltering me from the cold.

“Is it over?” she asked.

“The marriage is.”

“What about everything else?”

I looked at the papers in my hand.

The criminal cases were closed.

The record of my wrongful detention was corrected.

The disciplinary complaint had a result. My parents’ legal authority over me was revoked. My property was back in my name.

The hurt wouldn’t vanish just because a few stamped pages said it should.

But from this day forward, no one would ever get to define me by those lies again.

“The rest is almost over, too.”

When we got back to the apartment, a cardboard box sat outside the door with no return address.

June had building security check it first. Only after they confirmed it was an ordinary package did she bring it inside.
