The representative frowned. “And if more serious material comes out?”

“The court will decide if it’s serious,” I said. “If what you want to know is whether pressure affects my work, then the project timeline and review records have already answered that question.”

The room fell quiet.

I did not ask them to believe me.

I did not promise to smile and endure whatever came next.

Half an hour later, the investors decided not to withdraw for now, but they requested a written explanation within two days.

It wasn’t a victory.

But at least this time, no one had passed sentence on my life the moment an edited clip appeared.

At eight that night, Cassidy went live.

I didn’t watch.

Ten minutes later, my lawyer sent me a screen recording.

Cassidy sat in front of a blank white wall, looking artfully haggard, with Jude’s yellow life jacket placed conspicuously beside her.

“I admit some of the old videos went too far.”

She looked into the camera, her tears falling with perfect timing.

“But Mara never told us she was pregnant. She came to that family weekend to gather evidence, take Evan’s money, and ruin my life and my child’s.”
