I Signed Away Eight Million To Leave Him Chapter 05
Three days after signing the waiver, I left Palm Beach.
There was no farewell party. I took nothing the Vale family had ever given me.
I packed two old suitcases and drove to St. Petersburg.
I’d found the apartment online.
One bedroom, one living room, an old building with a leaky kitchen faucet and a window that faced the stained brick wall of the building next door.
The rent wasn’t cheap, but it was within my means.
The security deposit and first month’s rent came from money I had saved over the years from part-time jobs.
The moment I signed my name on the lease, I stared at the line that read *Mara Ellis* for a long time.
There was no Vale surname here.
And no one who could decide whom I should love or marry just because they had once paid my bills.
On the second day, a courier from Beatrice arrived with an envelope.
Inside was a credit card with no limit.
My name was printed on the front. The note with it said only one thing.
“This has nothing to do with Graham. You don’t have to refuse me.”
I put the card back in the envelope and stopped the courier before he could leave.
“Please return this to Mrs. Vale for me.”
